Should be doing this 10 times a window at least. Big clubs buy up about twice that as it is.

In my entire life there's absolutely nothing of note that's come through nufcs youth system..

Anyone think errrr Andy Carroll well seriously give your head a wobble...

Nothing it's all utter crap

Carroll = £35M = something of note.

That covers the cost of running the youth system for a few years.

Anyone cribbing this signing is a nutcase. For the fee involved its a no brainer. I hope he goes well.

Come on we have Yedlin, Murphy and Atsu on our books, how bad can he be? I hope the young lad tears it up and proves the doubters wrong.

All I'd say is **** the U23s that **** isn't worth the money, the young players only improve if they're against top opposition and playing alongside top players.

All the kids playing in **** games against **** teams doesn't help.

Stick Vilca in the squad and lets give him time off the bench

His agent said its u23 to see how he is first and that makes sense...

Agent shouldn't say "to see how he is" like

Would be kinda weird "stick him in the under 23s cos he might be ****. Wheres my 20%?"

Just think by that stage the plans of the club with the player would have been in place, so he's just speaking the truth.

Contrary to those rewriting history, Andy Carroll was a very useful product to come out of the youth system. He was a very good young player for Newcastle who had most of the country sitting up and taking notice. He just turned into a perma crock after he left is all.

Sean Longstaff and Matty Longstaff are also very useful products to come out of the system. They just need nurtured now.

Steve Watson, Steve Howey, Aaron Hughes (bought but young), Fraser Forster, Paul Dummett, Steven Taylor, Adam Armstrong, Lewis Gibson. **** me even Shola had his days.

To be honest there have been plenty who have been useful at PL level or just below. Its just incredibly easy to crib and do down your own. A lot of our fans seem to love to do that for some reason. If they aren't Gascoigne they are **** basically.

I'd like the club to continue to invest in the youth system, and supplement it with signings like this young lad. They just need to cut out the noise from negative fans saying we never produce anything etc. We do and will continue to. Loads more to do of course.

Carroll was always ****

We will agree to disagree. He was very highly rated within the game and as a result received international recognition. Was never at any point a 35m footballer of course, but in terms of being a useful product to come out of a youth system, for sure he was.

His problem wasn't so much his ability or bad fortune with injuries either. He'd probably struggle to admit but he was a party boy. That undoubtedly contributed to his inability to stay fit in my opinion. Same thing as Dyer. Excuses run out.

He had 11 good games feeding off Nolan and Barton.. He was used well but was found out when he moved to Liverpool

11 good games? I'm not sure where this comes from. He scored 17 in 33 starts in the Championship and then banged in 11 in 18 starts in the PL. He was basically outstanding for a season and a half. He was 20/21 at the time too. Still the most prolific we've had in the last 13 years. To be fair after the first full season at Liverpool they simply went and bought better players than him in Sturridge and Suarez, changed their style. Probably only started 20 odd games. At West Ham he only started about 80 odd games for those 33 goals. He actually has a pretty tidy record overall. Problem is you then realise that's 80 odd starts over 7 seasons <laugh> Its pretty clear the what his issues were, drinking and injuries (these are linked too).

Good player for a short period and had he been developed, would have been a massive feather in the youth systems cap in my opinion. He still is because he has played at the PL almost his entire career, and he was a full international who scored in a European Championship.

The championship was his level at best... Seriously what has he done? Since leaving he's done nothing

I think you are mixing up him being a good prospect coming out of an academy with a player having had a top career. I'd agree he has completely blown the latter, most of it his own doing whether he cares to admit that or not. However at the point of being 20/21, we had a striker who had mullered the championship scoring 17 goals and having countless hands in his partners 17 goals. He'd then steamrollered the PL smashing in 11 in 18. At that point he was a fantastic prospect in any sane persons book. At that point when he moves for 35m, you'd have to say the academy has done its job and presented a great young talent. The fact he then ****ed that all up is not the academy's fault.

If you had a 20/21 yr old striker do that over 51 games, smashing in 28 goals, most clubs in the country and beyond would be taking a keen interest.

He flattered to decieve because of Nolan and Barton feeding him for a relatively short period.. You could have thrown any donkey up there on the end of their service and they'd have profited in the same way...

I personally think Murphy has shown enough in his limited 1st team appearances to be given a bit more of a chance than he is getting. He's positive and tries to make things happen when he gets the ball.
