Yes, that's what I mean - he has different variations of Plan A which is to keep the ball and attack, dominate and control, break at speed. When he changes his system, tactics, the fundamentals are still in place. Having a Plan B (to me anyway) is about doing something drastically different i.e. long balls, target man etc.
I don't think plan b (at least to me) means a while new way of playing. The way I mean is that we started playing slow possession football but he's learnt and adapted that into a team that is quick on the counter. He's changed from the usual 433 and now had a diamond option in the middle and different options within that. Playing Coutinho there at home when we need that guile to get through stubborn defensive teams or playing Raheem there to hit the gaps in more attacking teams. Also experimented with 5 at the back which although wasn't brilliant did get results in some games and can be a useful option.
It's far too soon to be having this discussion. Yes this season has surpassed expectations. However, success brings its own problems. This Summer we need to strengthen our squad with higher quality imports than we have previously been associated with. Then we have to perform to this years standard or even higher both domestically and in Europe. IF he can handle all of that successfully then we can really make an evaluation.
[Best Lawro voice]: He's rubbish, isn't he? BR has been brilliant for us. Expected him to do well at our club, but he's years ahead of schedule. I fully expect him to keep us competitive in the next few years, too. I've never enjoyed a season so much! Long may it continue. Enjoying the way we are playing and the hate campaigns of bitter rival fans.
Rodgers hasn't won ANY silverware yet. How far back do we have to go to find a manager who managed in two separate seasons for Liverpool that didn't win any silverware during his Liverpool reign. Rodgers has the potential to be the most unsuccessful manager in decades still! / devil's advocate- I'm pleased to bits with how Rodgers has turned his reign around from the early days.
To answer myself- Phil Taylor (pre Shankly) 1956-1959 was the last manager to run the club during more than one season who failed to win any silverware. Even Souness won an FA Cup. Ronnie Moran, and Woy, both failed to win silverware- but didn't manage the club for more than a sesason.
Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted with what he has achieved since his arrival. I will be even more happy if he is even more successful next season and in the transfer market. Then I'll start to really praise him as one of the best.
So far done well, showing adaptation for sure. Agree with Dave in how can he deal with the CL, can we get higher profile players ( I think so, COutinho, Studge, Sakho shows that for me) , Can we tighten up in the back without giving too much away going forward (Hyypia please!), etc. It is all part of the growth of him as a manager and I am excited to see how he adapts and think he will do well.
Hes been great for Liverpool this year but I wouldnt be hailing as the next big thing just yet. Hes not had to do what all top managers must do in order to be a top manager. Juggle various competitions and use your squad to do this. Maintain the standards he has now set for himself over years not months. Show us he can use a squad. First he needs to build the squad. Address the defence. Non issue right now but you cannot expect to keep scoring at the rate you have. Teams will suss you out ( they always do ) and new options will be needed. Hes done brilliant. Make no mistake. Nobody expected it ( anyone who says otherwise is talking ****e ). Him or Martinez for manager of the year.
Fair comment, UIR, but one thing at a time. Irrespective of the other skills and abilities you highlight, the starting point was to manoevure us back into the top 4. This he has almost achieved, and in a timeframe none of us really expected. We might even win the ****ing thing. Having been your whipping boys for longer than I care to remember, even you must give him immense credit for this. It's ****ing phenomenal. The rest follows on from this. He can't be evaluated against parameters which don't yet apply. Go on. Admit it. He's the dog's bollocks at the mo
in short uir is saying moyes out here right? how can anyone prove the an or cannot until they have the chance to do so.
I wish our mods could go down thread history and merge threads if the subject topic has been done before.
Sometimes... ... although- I get annoyed when threads are more than 4 or 5 pages and tend to stop reading them... probably psychological but I'm more likely to open a thread that is under 5 pages than one that is over 5.
Dont worry guys, I will send Matth over. He'll show you how someone can make the same thread, millions of times....at once........ then you will appreciate what you have.
