Oh Holloway...Hadn't thought about that. Yeah, I think I'd rather like that, he'd get us playing nicely and the press conferences would be awesome.

look by the start of the season we will be saying Rodgers who, and by the end of the season we will be saying, well he did not learn his Reading lesson after all shame he lost his job at Liverpool, so lets move on because as sure as Guardiola worships swansea city, we are 5 million richer and a lot wiser

So Brendan glad you enjoyed your short stay at the barcelona of the premiership , and good luck in your new job as coach of Everton reserves

Naturally a bit disappointed by all this as i liked BR, but at least it's over quickly albeit a little painfully and we can move on £5M better off thanks to him signing the extension. We're in a far far better position than when Martinez left, and we will continue to flourish despite this. It's the Board and us the fans that sets our football philosophy and i don't see anything changing, upwards and onwards. STID

That is one thing Mabon, we have much experience of bringing in the new guy, the problem is at what point do the players start thinking "hang on? maybe i need a move on 50k a week now no point being loyal i could be back in the lower league if the club bring the wrong guy in"

That IMO is going to be a problem, Sinclair is already holding out(did he know something we didnt?) siggs i beleive will not sign(it was mentioned in the post that his deal was down to having assurences about the manager ) these are the problems that are pissing me off.

Rodgers leaving makes life very hard in the short term and puts pressure on everybody connected to the club, its already going to hard anyway, with anew guy we are back to pot luck again !!

You make a great point there, he ensured the club made money from him by signing a contract, something that he didnt really need to do IMO. It would have been easy to stay on a rolling contract and cherry pick a big paying job when it came along so credit must go to him for that.

It is also the Liverpool job, one of the biggest around and one that i beleive is still a top job in football, we cant blame him for that, we have always said that if our playing staff get offered Man utd, Liverpool,Chelsea Arsenal etc. then we would understand.

Its not like leaving a progressive club like Swansea city and going to Wigan ath. it is Liverpool we are being left for <ok>

If we got Guardiola, we'd have Barcelona players on loan/to buy, who needs Brendan and his Chelsea connections? ;)

well well perhaps now some of you youngsters will listen to some old hands who have been and seen how the clubs and media work hand in hand. we get told by the media that rodgers broke short his holidays to speak to jinks about the liverpool job.
Jump in the doubters "no he never because he had already turned liverpool down...Lies.
jinks says he never discussed the liverpool job with brendan...more Lies
the media said Rodgers is about to be the next manager of liverpool....Truth
    jinks denies.....more Lies again.

It has been a done deal all but the small print for weeks that it was either martinez or rodgers and they knew. fair play to wigan they came straight out with it and said martinez was being sounded out, The way jinks does it is Lie through his teeth that nothing is happening....
Am i sad to see rodgers leave.....well yes i am but like i have said before he may not get another chance, i was hoping he may think its a safer option with us...but we never had a chance as it was a done deal weeks ago with either martinez or Rodgers and when martinez turned the job down a few Hours ago then the job was rodgers. They both knew it was a 3 year contract....good luck to him its his choice an we will move on......ps siggs could be following him also....
Brendan knew he was going, jinks knew that brendan already had talks with liverpool but tired to fool us he never, <doh>
I wish he would be straight with us for once in his life and when the media reports something then come out and say if there is an element of truth in what has been reported rather than say point blank nothing is happening...

Im pretty devastated he has gone. We need to find the right manager now who will play OUR style of football and take the team foward. Gus Poyet is my choice - just put a fiver on him at 6/1.

Dai, you might be right but...

How do you know for definite he signed a contract weeks ago? Can you just answer that for me

Dai , something smells rotten about this , denials right up to the day he signs a 3 year deal with very little comment from the club .Not that it would have made the result any easier to swallow and the board must have had their reasons but it kept us supporters hanging on ,but then again how important are we ?

It doesnt matter if we wait 3 days or 3 hrs the club would have had its reasons . There is loads of stuff that goes on that amazingly fans dont get wind of its the same at everyclub.

The big concern now is the siggy deal, im 99% certain that will now be off, he asked the club for assurences about the manager before signing, well, he aint signed yet !! and is not likely to now.

by the silence from brendan and the openess by martinez, The media knew as liverpool announced they had talks with both martinez and rodgers, one chairman admited it and one chairman denied it. They both knew the exact details of a 3 year contract with a director of football in overall control.... martinez thought about it and would not accept not being in full control and announced earlier than expected that the job was not for him and that triggered the swansea choice of brendan as the immediate boss of liverpool.
the club needs to be up front with everyone because now jinks and his lies are making us look fools....they should take a leaf out of wigans book and be up front on whats happening...

I think he has moved too soon. I am not convinced he will be a success, but would thank him for what he has done. Let's see who we get next.

bonymaen Rodgers has done what bobby did last year give fans false promises, and then pulled a fast one out in America tbh with you and as far as i am concerned he has gone down big time in my estimation, very sly and underhanded if you ask me

Norway the thing with sinclair is he would be taking a big risk if he left us, he says he wants regular football he would not get that at many other clubs, siggy must have been aware that rodgers was thinking of jumping ship he is only concerned with playing in the premiership, rodgers had discussed this in America while out there, his meeting with huw was just to tell him he was off and check if the compensation cheque had been received.

keep it simple now, even though we need to install a manager ASAP we need the right manager, there will be plenty of applicants thats for sure, I dont want to see a high profile manager who dont play our style that would ruin everything, Im in favour of monk who knows exacly how we play and train, we dont need to go for a high profile manager....perhaps siggs will sign if we went down that route....

Just got in but heard BBC Wales reporting on the radio that he's gone and we will be getting between £4/5 million in compensation. Very disappointed in the man but we should have known what would happen from when he cr****d on Watford - their fans did warn us.

His going doesn't phase me to be honest. What does worry me is what Norway and others have brought up in terms of the players. We can write off Siggy (thanks for that Brendan) and no doubt some of our squad will also look to move on (thanks again). Left us in turmoil just as Martinez did and the compensation will do little more than pay for his successor, so we won't be gaining that.

I feel that his departure at this critical stage of our development will leave us deeper in the mire than when RM left. We could cope with regrouping in the Championship but doing it in the Premier League is a whole different ball game. The other teams will smell blood and really get after us as we will bound to be disjointed under a new guy early on in the season. By the time we settle and get it sorted it might already be too late to pull out of trouble.

As for Holloway, are you people serious? His defensive record was worse than that of Martinez and that takes some doing!! At least Blackpool were scoring for fun at the other end to make up for it, something we have found it difficult to do. Zola might be a target; great player but limited managerial experience with no track record as a coach. Glamorous name but he would need some solid experience alongside him and I don't mean Pascoe or, bless him, Curt. Poyet could do it as he favours the "continental" style, is experienced and has the playing credentials to win respect in the dressing room from day one. He is also passionate which counts for a lot.

Guys, we have got it all to do now. We all knew that Rodgers would move on one day but no one expected it would be so soon. He has dropped us in deep s***e with the timing of this; he must know the effect it will have on Siggy and other potential signings, not to mention the existing squad and the club as a whole. Perhaps some of us (exclude me) will understand him feathering his nest but I wonder will they be so understanding come the end of next season if we are relegated? I don't think so.

    Fair comments Ivor.
Hollaway has learnt alot since and of course we are well versed to being defensivly minded nowadays, i dont think he will come in and change the methods of the 3rd best defence in the prem league. He would be humble enough to know if it aint broke then dont fix it. The more important thing is keeping the same ethos as before and having somebody who is a good charecter around the players, they will need a lift and im sure hollaway could provide it, he wont cost a fortune either and has proven he has the tools to do well on low money <ok>

I Dont think its as bad as you are painting the picture ivor. Ok im sad he has left but it was all there for fans to see. some of us thought it was the writting on the wall and some listened to jinks ......lets put it in perspective shall we.
    1) We are still a premiership club.
    2) we have all our key players except one or two who are on good contracts.
    3) we have lost on man and one man is not bigger than the club its self,
    4) we have been in this situation before and we survived and even progressed.
    5) we are swansea city we will always be great...
    6) we have a ready made manager in monk who would carry on as things are, you dont need to spend millions on anyone....monk who has his badges is ready made to fit into martinez right shoe and brendans left shoe and as a defender himself then we cant go far wrong.....you dont have to be a manager of long standing to do good...martinez should tell you that....

Agree , although I'm old enough to know better the feeling of being let down doesn't get any easier, and a time where stability of the club at this level was going to be hard enough it's just got a lot harder for us , too many unknowns where there shouldn't have been .A year ago we were celebrating one of the best days in the Club's history and today it's back looking over our shoulder .Disappointed more that Rodgers kept the farce up of getting Siggy to sign for us to see that being snatched from us is something I wouldn't forget
