<laugh> Yeah this is true! Got some decent competition for the middle of the park now.

To be fair I've never had a problem with it. Some of his most productive spells have been out there. He just doesn't have the discipline and nous to play deep in the middle or box to box. He did do well when deployed in that number 10 role centrally. Only in counter attack though. When teams sat deep he lacked the guile to create. He should have better players around him now. I noticed France uses him wide a fair bit.

Yeah I'd tend to agree now. He's a runner, and a great one at that. He's the sort of player that's most dangerous when he doesn't have the ball and can run off the shoulder of the defender.

As you say, if he's got space on the counter he's great at running with the ball. His actual ball control and quality of passing isn't that great so unless McClaren can transform him as a player I'd say he is best suited to a wide role.

I'm not worried about the midfield, I think we have enough quality and numbers in there to be around the top 10. In an ideal world we'd swap someone for a ball player. And truth be told, if we got offered decent money for Sissoko and bought a genuine quality wide man then I'd be happy. As it stands though there is some good talent in there. Colback, Abeid, Sissoko, Cabella, Gini, Kemen, Tiote, Anita, SDJ, Aarons - obviously Perez can play wide too and we still have Marveaux, Obertan and Gouffran on the books. If we could shift those three and put just one quality wide man in there I think we'd be in a good place.

More worrying is the slight change in tack from McClaren in recent days. He seemed confident of 2 or 3 more, but now is hedging his bets a bit and saying he is happy. He doesn't know if there will be more. This has all the hallmarks of previous regimes running the party line. If we flog Sissoko before the deadline and stayed as we are, I think we'd have to expect another tough season. The defence is the problem.

As I say in an ideal world we tweak the midfield. The defence is a different matter altogether with a big signing needed on top of Mbemba.

Bear in mind these highlights are taken from about 6 games he actually played for us last season. It's not just what he does it's his confidence and ambition, really did used to have the team looking up and attacking more - I hope we get to play him 20 games this season and find out if this is what he is like on a constant basis, then we can compare him to established players.

He does have a lot of talent, I saw more in the handful of games he played last season than from Sterling in most of a season but we need more games from him to tell.
