Don't think you're unique in that. Interesting bunch sports supporters. I think this ties into the threads about style. If you can see your manager has a blue print and the team is progressing you may cut the team some slack. If things are a bit more random then the extremities of views increases. In general, sports fans are not a forgiving type.
For me, style is a ‘nice to have’, but winning is number 1. In order of preference: 1. Win games by playing ‘perfect’ passing football 2. Win games by any means. Long ball - whatever 3. Draw games by playing ‘perfect’ passing football 4. Draw games by any means - bad really. 5. Lose, but play attractive football - still bad. 6. Lose and play hoof-ball - the worst!
Mostly - although people conveniently forget our wins over QPR (with 10 men) and the utter hiding we gave SW too. We also buried our Birmingham ghost too. Yes it was disappointing and poor - but not the disaster that some doomsayers would have us believe. We drew a lot of games (some which we should have won - Sunderland..... Leeds....) but that’s number 4 not 6 !!!
Sheffield Wednesday played quite poorly, but that match was won very much with passing football. Passing football Lee Johnson again moved the team away from. Frankie Fielding did launch the ball into touch again but the team that week was very much playing out and through thirds rather than over them.
Russell Osman. Beat Liverpool but reduced crowds to 7000!!!! 300 and no I have not missed a 0 went to Pompey away for a 3pm kick off and most walked out at half time and 0-0 . They won a few games but the ground and everything else around it was like a morgue. Winning being no1? Bristol City??? Wrong team.
Fair enough - I admit I follow City from the tv and radio mostly (from my Swindon bedroom according to RP - although he hasn’t thrown that at me recently) - I go to about 6 Home games and 3 away most seasons, so I do get that when I stand in front of Sky Sports News and cheer when they report we are winning it’s not the same as watching direness week in week out.
QPR are the top championship team. No doubt due in large part to Luke Freeman who takes most of their corners and I suspect a lot of free kicks. I do think we miss his ability to put in a good corner kick.
But the mention for City again shows some of the fine work being done down on the training pitch by Lee Johnson and Dean Holden - who is responsible for attacking set-pieces. LJ has won a lot of accolades from the world of football this season, they can't all be wrong.................
Bristol City have been more and less effective in previous seasons. The consistent in this high performance is Aden Flint. He is an outlier, over seasons his performance is phenomenal.
Been thinking about this . Nobody really can say how Bristol City were going to play last four months and will the say the same about next season.
