Robin Van Persie is the Real Deal

Discussion in 'Arsenal' started by Arsenal87, Jun 2, 2012.

  1. IN the article I linked it also confirms that RVP covered more ground than any other player in the league over the course of the season <ok>.

He may get injured again - like any player - but that is irrelevant to any discussion on a deal at this point. Some rival fans like to use his past injury record to put him down, buts that's all they have got left now. They cant accept the truth that he is the best player in the Premier League.

Mate, he scored two against us, Northern Ireland. Have you any idea how bad we are? We get beaten regular by Iceland, Norway, Estonia and so on.

This in itself is NOTHING to sing about .. if he leaves for free the following season. When Henry and Vieira left us at least we got some money for them.

    <ok>

I was encouraged by the article where he spoke with Thierry Henry too, especially his repeated mentioning of 'my club' - It just sounded like someone who was intending to continue to be an Arsenal player. I know we all need to be careful not to read too much into any of this, as both RVP and the club have agreed not to mention anything to the press, but that in itself suggests that negotiations are ongoing and there's nothing to suggest that RVP is indicating that he wants to leave. My feeling is that it's as reported, that he wants to be convinced that we can challenge for trophies next season. I just hope the board give Wenger the resources he needs to do so.

It's my feeling though, that RVP will still be an Arsenal player next season, even if he doesn't sign a contract this summer.

I just see no value in selling our best player. I'd rather have him than the money.

For one season ? It makes no sense at all, none financially and none for morale and team spirit - if everyone knows your best player is leaving the following season and you won't get any money to at least go towards replacing him - meaning we'll buy some cheap alternative.

I don't see any benefit at all to the club in keeping him for another season and losing him for free.

The challenge is to find a convincing reason for him to stay, not for AFC to keep him.

And I ask you to provide one...

He is worth more to us than what we'd get in a transfer fee, so it makes perfect sense to keep him.

If he stays, then a front three of

Podolski....RVP...Walcott/Oxo is going to be one of the deadliest front lines in the Prem. If we also strengthen in the right places, we could be genuine title challengers. So that in itself is reason enough for him to want to stay.

I agree - having him and not could be the difference between CL qualification and not. But I'd prefer to sell him and use the money + more to buy a player or 2 who would replace his goals and assists and prepare for the future. These 2 players could also be the difference between CL qualification and not.

Same potential outlook but future resolved and we can look ahead rather than enduring all the drama, speculation and negatives that keeping him will attract.

    Podolski?

Far too slow to make an impact on the Premier League.

Wouldn't get too excited, if I was you

I think it would be a massive gamble to think that we could find that player this summer. RVP is the best one out there - and we've already got him.

There are lots of gambles .. will RVP repeat last season's performances ? Will he remain injury free ? Will the other players perform ? Its all a gamble, I'd rather protect the future and work towards what will be inevitable if he doesn't sign.

I just think it would be a bigger gamble trying to bring someone in who replicate what RVP does.

  15. The biggest gamble we have taken as a club is to support Wengers philosophy on football and youth development. We continue to take the same gamble every year - averaging down on a losing bet.

As I have said, I would like us to keep RVP even if he doesnt sign a new contract, but I am under no illusions as to what this means. Its a HUGE gamble. Because if we dont win a trophy next year, he'll be off on a free, and Wenger will no doubt be pushig on with his losing strategy, not having the RVP funds to replace him. We'll be even worse off the year after.

Basically, I am for the RVP gamble next year to try and arrest the decline of our club.

Look - give RVP a 3 year deal - starting with £180k per week (cost = £9.5m) then 2nd year £150k per week (cost = £8m) final year £130k per week (cost =£7m) . Total £25m - but we get 3 years of him, and encourage other top level players to come to Arsenal.
His contribution to continued CL football alone will justify £25m.

Get creative Arsenal for God's sake.......

    Both completely different players.

Hazard is a winger/attacking mid, a proper skillster with great pace and good creative abilities.

Robin Van Persie is an all round immense center forward, with strikers instincts and brilliant finishing ability.

It depends what you need, a fantastic winger or a fantastic center forward.
