I was very critical about the guy in the first half of the season, in hindsight probably unfairly. Since the turn of the year he's become our most consistent performer, even as a CF with £32m Benteke on the bench.

I think he's a good example of players coming in from different countries needing time to adapt, he's set up/scored more goals than any other player in 2016, Klopp is doing wonders with both him and Lallana.

Get another wide player and a striker to compete with Sturridge next season along with Coutinho that will be a pretty hand attacking set up for next season.

Really fair play to the lad, he works hard but has a great touch and a surprising turn of pace. He's not afraid to run the channels but he has a similar work ethic to Suarez, obviously not as good but as Jimmy said in the match thread yesterday it's unfortunate he didn't replace Suarez instead of Balotelli.

<cheers>

He has a lot of potential and will only get better - he's going through a good run so let's hope he can continue.

Bear in mind that he's been able to perform well without Coutinho or Sturridge as well - we should be building our attack around him.

Surprised not much more is made of his work rate though - the British media tend to lap that sort of thing up.

Firm was crap to start with and absolutely deserved criticism.

Even now he's hot and cold but default more frequently to hot. In all honesty though he still hasn't justified his price tag. He needs to continue improving before he does. He needs to be more consistent before he does too.

However it is looking increasingly more likely to be a worthwhile signing. He is still inconsistent though.

2 types of inconsistency: within a game, and game to game

Over 90 minutes players like Firmino will never be consistent because being brave enough to take chances means sometimes they just won't work

Game to game he's the most consistent PL player in 2016 [HASHTAG]#doingafirmino[/HASHTAG]

I'm getting the feeling he's inconsistent.. <whistle> Can you confirm?

I suppose Philippe is inconsistent too. But it's good in a way that he can have a fairly anonymous game and bring out one bit of magic that wins the game, Firm is similar. Playing like this keeps them under the radar a bit, if Coutinho was at his best all the time then I'd imagine he'd have a lot of interest from some of the elite.

Coutinho is inconsistent both in game AND game to game.

He's crap 88 mins and then does something spectacular every third game.

Firm is inconsistent between games. Every third game he plays really well but puts in two mediocre performances in between doing well.

Way better than Firmino this...

He's a massive flop Jimmy, face facts

Was he? Ok fair enough.

Point is - players take time to adapt. Labelling a player flop after a few months in a new league, country and playing under 2 managers isn't smart.

Top drawer players adapt quickly and even if they don't set the league on fire early on, you can see something in their play that denotes they're something special.

This lad is exactly what I expected him to be, a You Tube player. Produces the odd flash that looks great on a season long compilation, but is largely anonymous and disappointing over 90 minutes. He's a poor mans Mirallas mate :)

It makes all the Depay vs Firmino threads slightly embarrassing for the Mancs.
