I presume that means Mavrias will be in and around the first team next season, whereas those left behind will go out on loan

Very happy to see Alfie has traveled, hopefully he stays.

ALFRED N’Diaye has been included in Sunderland’s squad for their pre-season trip to Portugal, despite the question marks over his future.

Spanish side Real Betis have been keen to re-sign N’Diaye after he spent the second half of last season on loan in La Liga.

And with Gus Poyet deciding to leave behind several players on Wearside who are not in his plans for the new season, there were doubts over whether N’Diaye would be involved in the 10-day trip to Portugal.

But the Senegal midfielder was included in the squad which flew to the Algarve today.

That will be a boost to the N’Diaye’s hopes of remaining at Sunderland, with the 24-year-old keen for a second chance with the Black Cats.

As the Echo reported yesterday Danny Graham has not travelled to Portugal, and neither have Cabral or Modibo Diakite - all of whom are expected to leave the club this summer.

Several youngsters, including Duncan Watmore, have also remained in the North East.

I really hope we give Alf a season.

Good for these lads but why no Watmore. Give the younger players a chance to shine, they did the other night.

I don't think watmore is ready. A loan in the championship hopefully will sort him out.

I do hope Maria's, alf and Roberts get involved and step up. Alf offers us such a different midfield proposition, surely we must keep him.... Unfortunately it could just be shop window time v real betis

Alf Roberts? You big gallah!!!!

I agree though (other than the spelling) <whistle> hope to see Alfie, Roberge and DMK given a chance. Roberge got basically blamed for the Fulham loss for losing his man. We missed a hatful of chances and he came out as a scapegoat (with Di Canio anyhow). I liked the look of him. Proper, ball playing centre half. N'Diaye is someone I would like to see given a crack. Different type of player to Colback (batter and stronger in the tackle and on the ball) occasionally lacks composure but he's only 24!

Bloody iPad predictive typing. I'm not pissed! Should have read Mavrias, Alf, Roberge!!! All 3 have the quality, but can we nurture it and fit them in.

I'm not sure Moberg Karlson has the bottle, given the whining comments coming out of his agent.
