Worth signing on a free?? As a free agent, is he worth getting in as a decent (albeit accident prone) option in goal? He can be excellent on his day and although he is not the youngest keeper out there, he has got a lot more years left than Brad. I think he would be 2nd choice to Brad as it stands, but an excellent option for cups and Europa League.
Thoughts please?!
 
David Gold has apparently claimed on Twitter that Green's leaving.
Jaaskelainen's supposed to be his replacement, though that might just be a predictable rumour, given the previous connection between him and Allardyce.

I think he'll sign for a club that'll guarantee him first team football.
That's not us.
 
Apparently, QPR had made their interest known, back in January.
 
Of course the club are interested in Robert Green, primarily because he's a good goalkeeper, secondly because he's available on a free. His situation has been known for some while and it has been almost common knowledge he would be leaving Hammers this summer. It has also been known for a while that Sam Allardyce is a huge admirer of Paul Robinson and is trying get him to Upton Park.

Getting back to Green, he doesn't have that physical presence taht some keepers have and he doesn't have the same aura about him keepers like Joe Hart show, but nonetheless, he is a keeper who always shows great concentration during games, has good distribution and is an excellent shot stopper. However, there remains a doubt about his 'bouncebackability' from his WC howler. A decent season in the championship in a winning side, does not mean he has fully recovered from his ordeals of a couple of years ago.
 
Evening Spurcat, even with what you've put, i can only focus on the last bit. You must have noticed too that he isn't the only keeper not look the same after an International clanger. It seems when I do see Green there's dodgy handling somewhere, dunno, perhaps I'm focusing too much on the bad.

Scott Carson, Robbo, Ian Walker, all never looked the same after their disasters, that said, it could be argued Carson never looked the same before either!

Must be a keeper thing, missed open goals by strikers don't tend to scar them, always found that strange. Have you ever lobbed it in the net!? :)
 
I think that it just gets focused on more, Notso.
Any time that Cech makes a mistake, as rare as they are, the commentator will still inevitably claim that he hasn't been the same since his head injury.
The same applies to any keeper who has made a high profile balls up or just been accused of one, in Robinson's case.

Mine neither!, must have done something to get a cap though. I thought he was alright for a season or two, no more i admit, perhaps England were desperate...as they usually are! :)
 
We've also been linked with Craig Gordon. He's also free.
Why spend money you don't have to, I suppose, but still...

Craig Gordon took a long time to adapt to the English league and whilst he has now got a decent reputation within the game, there remains this feeling he is 'made of glass'.
 
Understandable, SC.
There's no point in having a good player on the books, if he's never actually available to play.
He'd be quite a risk, unless the plan would be to bring him in as third choice to assess him and move Cudicini into coaching or something.
Can't see that, for various reasons.
 
Can't see Cudicini wanting to be 3rd choice and there's no point signing another 'keeper this season, until Gomes is on the plane and the cheque's in the post to us.

So let me get this right, he is free and injury prone, but Wenger has still not brought him. <yikes>
