The story of this man has really broken my heart.
At 5 foot 4 he was one of the hardest/toughest players in Rugby league. He had a fiersome reputation and was regarded as one of the best players in the country..

At 32 years old he turned up for training and his best mate/team mate mentioned to him his speech sounded slurred. He shrugged it off but after realising its getting worse he finally went to see a doctor...

He has 2 young kids and a wife and this is now the life he's living less than 2 years after that previous interview. Hes already exceeded the life expectancy he was given. A true warrior in every way and form..

Life is short we never know what is around the corner.

Horrific mate, like you say you never know whats round the corner, lools to have had the lot, same as you could win the lottery then be hit by a curve ball like this.

unfortunately & i guess you realise as you get older, there are no garrantees in life & all you can do is 'hit the ball & run' hope for the best

life is to short & even more so to shorter for those who are simply unluck...its ****

My lass is a massive Rugby league fan mate, and being from Leeds she know people that knows him well.
She took me to a Leeds Rhinos match last month, and I got talking to a few of their fans and they told me he was the hardest little b@stard on the pitch.
Being 5 foot 4 and making it into professional Rugby tells it's own story in how hard he must have been mentally overcoming the physicality of the game and not to mention the pi$$ taking he must have endured he became one of the best players in the country.

Looking at his demise over less than 2 years is heart breaking

There was a lot of coverage on BBC news a while back, his ex team mates were doing a massive long run to raise money for charities and they ended it at the stadium live on bbc breakfast news I think. It's a bloody awful illness that one, just shows how much of a fighter he is.

Steph Houghtons husband, Stephen Darby (ex footy player) has also been diagnosed with it as well.

Keep fighting lads and all the best to them and their families.

It's awful mate, and seeing how he changed in less than 2 years is scarey

Lewis Moody, x England captain now diagnosed.

Today, I read about Lewis Moody. A fantastic rugby player for England. He took now has MND.

In the article it cited a report from 2022, which had found that international rugby players were fifteen times more likely to develop MND than others.

That is a terrifying stat, and though there will be many caveats; size of sample, age of players, relative rarity of the illness etc, rugby clearly has to look at this somehow

Surely both Union and League will have to investigate this and try and work out why it keeps happening
