CHELSEA 1-0 MANCHESTER CITY Leicester City 1-0 SOUTHAMPTON So the road to Wembley comes to an end with the final on 15th May between the BLUE Baton and the RED Baton CHELSEA v LEICESTER CITY The Blue Baton is of course the Jim Bowen Baton, which started with POMPEY in Round One. It was carried into Round Four by BRISTOL CITY, who passed on to SHEFFIELD UNITED for the Quarter Finals. They immediately relinquished it to CHELSEA, who will carry it into the final. The Red Baton was the original, starting with HORNDEAN in the Extra Preliminary Round. BERMERTON HEATH HARLEQUINS carried it into the Preliminary Round and then passed it to SHOLING for the First Qualifying Round. They went on to reach the Fourth Qualifying Round for the first time in their history, but it was TORQUAY UNITED who took custody of it for Round One. We then had what must have been one of the craziest FA Cup ties ever between Torquay and Crawley Town. Torquay led 2-1 as they went into stoppage time. Crawley equalised (90'+14), Torquay scored what was surely the winner (90'+18) only for Crawley to equalise again (90'+21). Torquay scored just either side of half time in extra time (both penalties) to lead 5-3. Only for Crawley to score on 108', 113', and 118' to give the result Torquay 5-6 Crawley AET. So CRAWLEY took the baton in Round Two. Their cup run included a 3-0 win over Premier League Leeds United and they and held it until Round Five, when they were beaten by AFC BOURNEMOUTH. They in turn passed it on immediately to SOUTHAMPTON, who fell at the last hurdle, meaning that LEICESTER CITY represent the Red baton in the final. It is the Plum Baton that misses out this season. The original owners were HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE, who entered in the 2nd Qualifying Round. Their cup run came to an abrupt end with a (shock?) defeat at the hands of MARINE in Round Two, thus denying them a Third Round tie at home to Premier League TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR, who duly swiped the baton from the last non-league side standing and marched on into Round Four. They lasted two rounds, but a 5-4 AET defeat meant that they had to relinquish their baton to EVERTON for the Quarter Finals. The Toffees passed it immediately to MANCHESTER CITY, who then paid the same compliment to Blue Baton holders CHELSEA , in the battle of the batons. I hope you have enjoyed the Road to Wembley. If I can drum up the enthusiasm to do it again I'll restart in August with the Extra Preliminary Round for the 2021-22 season
