I think he will ultimately break Charlton's record for both England and United and you just do not do that by being as poor as he's sometimes made out.

And will in all likelihood end up as second highest PL goalscorer after Shearer and with the second highest number of assists after Giggs. No player can even come close to matching his ability to create and score chances so consistently. I had this argument with Scouse fans a couple of years back - only Lampard comes anywhere near Rooney for total goals plus assists in the past ten years, and Fat Frank still ends up a good 3-4 per season behind Rooney.

Rooney is if anything a victim of his own all round talent and the quality at Utd. If he'd ended up somewhere like Liverpool or Arsenal, he'd be the out and out striker, scoring 20-30 goals every season, being the stand out player by a mile, and winning one trophy every four or five years if he's lucky. At Utd he's been trained, right from his first season, to put the team ahead of himself. As a result he's never been able to shine as an individual, but has a shedload of medals and trophies to show for it.

That's probably the reason his attitude has stank a bit at times - every time he has a great season as an out and out striker, he finds himself stuck back in the 10 role next year as the team works so much better with him there.

Shearer, Linekar, Greaves, Charlton all much better strikers than Rooney. Owen was better for England as well, pre injuries.

Based on the same sticks used to beat Rooney on a regular basis, Greaves was s**t for England. One worthless goal in major tournaments (made no difference to the result) at a time when England were genuine contenders for trophies and he had some of the best players in the world around him. And a goalscoring record massively embellished by hat tricks against the likes of Luxembourg, Peru and Northern Ireland (twice).

Or is this a case of one rule for Rooney, one for everyone else you want to claim is better than him?

15 goals/assists in 16 games for club and country this season.

Yet some still say hes not good enough. All from midfield too.

Rooney's historical record is great, but neither him nor Van Pervert can hold a candle to Costa in the present.

If you genuinely would take either of them over Costa at the minute then you're on another planet mate.

Rooney cant?

Pretty sure he can. 10 games 5 goals and 2 assists. From midfield/am.

And yeh, i would have rooney over costa every day of the week. Offers far more.

Rooney is ****ing brilliant and continues to prove his frankly laughable doubters wrong year after year.

Better player tham costa, offers more than aguero (offers **** all for 4 months a year) and just keeps going.

Its not just about goals for rooney. Its the whole package which is something you dont get fro
from others.

Note i didnt say he was a better striker.

Leicester are fcking ****e. Hate these teams raising their game against us and then folding to everyone else.

They are really poor. They ****ed up by beating United so early. It was like winning the title for them. Their pinnacle and they had nowhere to go. They went downhill from there.

Silly mistakes, no discipline playing on confidence . Gifted 2nd goal to Gerrard. If they had equalised a second time they could have won it even with 10 men.
