As much as I rate him, I don't think Lallana is top 4 quality, and 'Pool need top 4 quality if they are not to slip back into mid-table obscurity after Goofy has left.

Englands "future" now resides on Merseyside. Lallana, Sturridge, Sterling, Barkley, Flanagan.......Hendersen <wah>

It's scary, isn't it!

Basically, it means we are ****ed for at least the next decade, until some proper talent comes through.

I think Lallana's worth the money... or as worth the money as you can be in modern football. English players are always more expensive as they're much more marketable, if they become an England regular, and if Downing can get 30+ England caps I'm sure Lallana can too. If you ignore the premium on English players I think a player that's proven he can play in the Premier League and give the performances je jas then I think he's worth £15mill of anyone's money (that's just what the top teams pay for a squad player these days).

£15m yes, £25m no way. I'd say City and maybe Chelsea are the only teams that'd splash that sort of money on squad players and surprise, surprise, who are the two clubs backed nigh on unlimited financial resources?

Lallana is a good player, very good at times but for that price I'd expect at least an 8/10 performance every week from him and I don't think Lallana is the calibre of player to perform consistency like that. Don't get me wrong he'd get into most, if not all sides in the Prem but I still don't feel he's worth splashing 25 big ones on. I personally feel for that money you can get a higher calibre of player for that sort of dosh.

Edit:......and Stones!

Sterling and Barkley are the only two that I feel can progress onto a level in which you can class as a "top player". I think Hodgson needs to build future England squads around them to accommodate their skills and allow them to shine on the big stage.

But give an English passport to a £15mill player and they're immediately worth the extra.

Its frightening. Not only are the players average (overall) as Barkley & Sterling can't carry the rest, but you worry if Kane & Obika will get a look in.

Although if you also include Lambert, Gerrard, Johnson & Jagielka. 11 players living in scouse land. We are ****ed! ....and thats before you mention Hodgson!

I believe it's widely recognised that this is the board you come to if you want to be assured of intelligent and concise, as well as unbiased, comment.

For the most apart I would agree, just ironic that you are the one who said that.

The fact that you've taken the time to emerge, blinking, from the black pit of your obscurity to make that point demonstrates, amply, that you recognise me to be your most feared and respected adversary.

...or you don't understand the true meaning of intelligent banter? It's worth thinking about.
