If you really want a serious debate on this; first of all yes, money can always be at he root of any player wanting to move. Some are far more stupidly greedy than others. Modric doesn't strike me as one of those who is solely motivated by money. Yes, he wants to win things. He's a world class player, who wants to play at the top. We have to show him, and other key players that we have the ambition to match theirs'. We are never going to match the ridiculous wages that are paid by others in this country, and elsewhere. Those that are thus motivated will always go where they are paid the most. I don't believe either Modric or Bale fall into that category.
At this moment, we have a far better squad than you, and far better prospects. As has been said, there is far more chance of you losing RVP than us losing Modric.
You seem to have missed out on a few important points.
Firstly, it would appear that Modric is waiting to see the lay of the land.
Champions League football, a pay rise and a manager that he has faith in and he'll be happy to stay.
His previously preferred alternative look like quite a mess at the moment, I'm sure you'll agree.
A deal for Adebayor is workable.
If he doesn't decide to join, then we'll have to bring in someone else.
I'm sure that Levy already has a list of possible signings drawn up, to be honest.
Perhaps you should apply the same thinking to your own players?
Van Persie has a year left on his contract at the end of the current season and won't discuss a new one. Looks highly likely that he'll leave.

I agree on RVP. He is probably gone next year. I am realistic about it. I guess time will tell with you. With your small stadium and without a rich owner you are taking a massive risk if you pay your top player 120k a week like has been reported. 1 season of missing out on the champions league after that and you boys will be in serious financial trouble. I really cant see levy taking such massive risks. Thats why I cant see an adebayor deal being workable. Maybe he can make a deal for modric but again I cant see it because bale and vdv will need to be bumped up to his wages. And everyone below will want more wages. End result you will be like leeds united.
Levy is too clever for that. And before you call me a wum if any of you read my posts tehn you will see I say you have a great team and that you have some top players. I ust doubt that you will keep them, because I doubt you can afford to.
Van der Vaart - many fans actually asking for him to be dropped! We could cope absolutely fine without him, and have done at various points this season.
Adebayor - has been **** in so many games this year. He's been a good signing, but no way he's been too good for us! Probably been our 6th/7th best player this season.
Modric - he could start for any team in the world (bar maybe Barca) and could earn much more money than he currently does, but at the end of the day Levy refused to sell him last season, so why would he let him go without a fight this year? No way Luka will want to go to Chelsea this summer anyway

There's a vast difference between increasing our wage bill to an affordable amount, while still keeping our best players and doing what Leeds did.
We made quite dramatic cuts this season and substantial profits in the transfer market too, whilst improving the squad and overall performance levels.
It's a tricky balance, but Levy seems to be striking it, at the moment.
Having contracts which pay more if we're in the Champions League is one way to approach it.
We do have a rich owner. Lewis is hardly a pauper. However, he is also prudent. The new stadium is approved, and I believe our previous wage cap has almost certainly already been raised. However, as I said earlier, those whose sole motivation is financial will always go elsewhere.

We have a very rich director of the owner (company) of our club, but he certainly does not like to spend his own cash.
