The problem is that Ingerland currently have a surplus of pretty decent 10s. There's a constant debate about which of them should play... Bellingham, Rogers, Palmer, Foden, now Gibbs White is making a late push for it too.

The problem is Kane is better than all of them, but we try to shoe-horn him into a 9 and play another player at 10 and all that happened in the Euros is they were constantly getting in eachother's way.
Absolutely. In the "No.10" debate, I've always thought that Kane is the best of them. Yet the so knowledgeable pundits never mention that, and are always insisting he goal hangs and gets upset if he drops back (despite his amazing passing).

In Kanes last year's at Spurs he was our best striker ,best midfielder and often our best defender and with his transfer fee we did not buy anyone equal to him in any position hense the state of where we find the club now

We used to be really good at it. Like when we used the Carrick money to buy Berbatov, and then the Berbatov money to buy Modric, and then the Modric money to buy Vertonghen and Dembele.

Then it all went pear shaped when we used the Bale money to buy the cast of Teletubbies, and hasn't recovered since.

I mean the Bale money went on Eriksen and Lamela, who were key components of Poch's team for years. The issue is they were the cheapest and most expensive signings of The Baldini Splurge and the players at every price point between them flattered to deceive and/or bloated the squad as it didn't occur to us that maybe we didn't need what felt like eight AMs by the end of the window

On the other hand the Walker money going on Aurier, Sanchez and Foyth was certainly a choice...

We've prioritised quantity over quality for years now and it has ruined us.

We don't even look at players in the £80m plus bracket because we'd need to shatter our wage ceiling to bring them in, and there is no desire to do that.

So we are left signing bang average players for huge fees and middling wages and it's all come home to roost.

Here's the obvious problem with that assertion: you are purposefully ignoring managers who identify poor fits which we're paying big for

The fact that Villas-Boas wanted Willian for the £33m we agreed, only for fate to intervene and we signed Eriksen for literally 1/3 of the fee who proved infinitely more valuable underlines this

Similar goes for Poch thinking that Vincent Janssen was worth £17m the same summer Alexander Isak was available for around £6.5m

And the fact is we haven't prioritised quantity since, ironically enough, The Baldini Splurge and have been far more curated in our searches for the best part of ten years. The issue this season is one part of our twin DoF structure did not work, and the signs point to Paratici being the faulty component given the lack of alternate options for pretty much every transfer target in the summer

As for wages, the main issue is we seem to flip a coin on who gets six figures right away and who gets six figures on their next contract: Deki, Romero and Porro are on six figures now but this is on their second or possibly even third contracts, while on the other hand Maddison and Gallagher came straight in on six figures, and this has been going on for a while as Lloris, Persic and Ndombele came straight in on six figures while Kane and Sonny needed 3-4 contracts to get up there
