After a quick visit to the Mouser subreddit (and scrolling past several threads whining about the Areola/Gakpo collision...) it's interesting that, somehow, they're taking nobody's side in the Norbert/Salah squabble on the touchline - though Salah spitting his dummy to the press afterwards has not gone down well

On the other hand, it is interesting that most of them are crediting Michael Edwards with putting the squad together and not Norbert

No pts and -7 on GD from the Fulham/Toon games
is where the damage has been done. It will now
require a repeat of 2009-10, but I see nobody in
the squad with the mindset to come close to doing it.

This.
not to mention that, psychologically it’s also tough looking at the table seeing that Villa have a 7 point gap, regardless of whether our fixtures are tricky or not. Their points are on the board, and we have to respond. But that’s a difficult ask for any team.
Let’s say we’d still lost to Fulham and Newcastle, but both 1-0. We’d also have a GD of +21. Two absolutely horrendous results at this stage of the season when goal difference can play a huge part.
Some massive games coming up, but I’m struggling to see how we pick up more than 2/9 from city, Liverpool and Arsenal.

2/9 would be tremendous. Win the other 3 games (including Chelsea) and we have a small chance. Turn the 2 draws into wins and we are in with a chance.

4th looks unlikely but 5th is fine. We get back into Europe and continue to build. We don't want a repeat of the last time we reached the CL final and went down hill from there. As long as we are progressing and playing good football I am happy.

He said, but it still hurts when we lose.

I'm not event thinking as far back as that.

Our last outing in the CL was more than enough evidence of what happens when a team stumbles into the competition without being ready for it. Both legs against a beatable Milan side were amongst the most drab performances I've ever seen from us.

TBH the squad was likely ready for it (okay, parts of the squad...) but the issue was Conte being in full self-destruct mode by that point and that negativity bled into the squad

Not too bothered about qualifying for the CL

Im sick of supporting a team who just enter competitions to make up the numbers…that’s not sport that is something else.

Europa league is more our level and id prefer to watch us in that but I’m not convinced we, as a club are professional enough in cup competitions for me, as a fan to give a **** and hopelessly back them.

Yeah I don’t think 4th is happening but I’ve said before I think 5th is better for where we’re at as a squad at the moment, though getting 5th needs to be done first as that’s by no means in the bag, especially on current form and the fixtures we have remaining.

Emery really has done a great job at Villa though. Took over last season when Gerrard had them in relegation form, finished the season in the Conference spot and this season has all but assured them of CL football for next season and is in the Conference semi final which I’d say they’re favourites to win. I’d say my slim hope of ever seeing Watkins in a Spurs shirt is practically done now! Lol.

Levy needs to hire you to do the scouting.

Decent achievement in itself, but doing it with a 5-4 win in a sort of derby?
Injury time diving header to nick it, too.

Villa 76
Spurs 75
Man U 66
NUFC 65

If I have the sums right those are the max points the teams can get.

So basically we need 6 points to cement 5th

5th looks nailed on unless disaster strikes (sorry RCL) That's got be a decent first season for Ange.
