Players of Ronaldo's stature pay for themselves though. Shirt sales, sponsorships and merchandise more than cover pretty much any wage they want to demand, and clubs know that. How they can afford to pay Aaron Ramsey similar is what shocks me, unless they see zero shirt sales as some sort of weird marketing reverse-psychology.
