Sounds a bit like he is clutching at straws after being told there are no new players for the foreseeable future.
Not sure if you are joking but it wasn't meant as a wum, just the way things look from the outside at the moment.
There's no escaping the fact that, if we were flush, we'd have gone shopping and Vinnie wouldn't be getting another chance.....but we're not and he has.
Certain players have looked like they're done at the club only to successfully reappear. Moussa Sissoko is the prime example but Fernando Llorente has come back into favour a little bit. Mauricio Pochettino seems to have accepted that these players aren't perfect but they can do certain things well and to concentrate more on that than the bits that they're not so good at.
If he can do that with Vinnie, there's a player in there. He's not Harry Kane but not many are. With Sonny returned and Dele and HK coming back, he's not going to start much but a few appearances off the bench....
No idea what your youth team is like but I watch most of your games if on Sky or BT, you seem to have some very promising defenders and midfielders that get chances in games and impress. That said, I have never seen a youth striker brought on for 15mins or so at the end of a game you are controlling (as far as I know), are any ever sat on the bench or are they just not up to scratch.
We have a couple that we've sent out on loan to Sunderland and Melbourne respectively. That probably indicates where they are right now. Then there's the BIG hope - Troy Parrot. This kid's 16 and a fiery Irish centre forward who really likes to get stuck in, can come deep and pick a pass and knows where the net is.
He was wanted by every top club and this once, we got him. It's very early for him but next season I reckon he'll be on the bench and everyone has hopes that he'll make it at the very highest level. It's just a bit early for the lad...

I always think the time for kids is cup games, not to throw the cup by sticking 5 or 6 in and destroying their confidence (one thing that pissed me off with Fergie on occasions), but by putting one or two on the bench and maybe one in the starting 11 with some experienced pro's around him. To me that would give them a better chance of enjoying and learning from the experience of "big boy" football.
I fully agree. There's little point in sticking young players into a scratch side and expecting them to flourish. It's one of the things that have made international friendlies pointless.
I started this season saying that the young Argentine centre back, Juan Foyth, wasn't ready to play PL football. Mauricio Pochettino has picked him and he and we have had some hairy moments. Giving away 2 penalties in 5 minutes at Wolves could have destroyed the lad but we held on to win and he's been improving since. At some point they have to be given their chance or you become Chelsea.
Like Harry Kane and Harry Winks, the next gen. of youngsters have to play top level football. This season we've blooded Oliver Skipp, who most of us reckon is capable of being the real deal - the new Steve Perryman - all action, never stops running tackling, driving forward and can pick a pass. Next season it'll be Parrott, who we need to use or other clubs will be crawling all over him.
Mauricio Pochettino has been talking about building anew and basing it on younger players and Gazzanigga, Kyle Walker-Peters, Foyth Szanchez, Skipp, Winks and Parrott are the building blocks for the future. I thought that we were going to clear out a few last season and significantly rebuild. I'm sure it will happen this summer and we'll be going with our Academy lads to a strong degree.
Who knows but we'll soon find out. I like Vinnie and think he can do a job for us like Sissoko, just needs time.

Brian, my first thought was how much of a clear out can the squad stand, but then I realised that this process has already started, Dembele was shipped out in January and has effectively been replaced in the squad by Skipp.
As for Jansen, I still think that he should be a better fit to our preferred style than Llorente, and I don't recall him having a truly awful game for us, but much like Soldado before him, he just couldn't do the fundamental thing he is in the side to do (except from 12 yards). But as others have said Sissoko has confounded the critics and so has Danny Rose, maybe Janssen can too.
I think that we're on for major surgery. For me, the following players aren't guaranteed to be here next season...
Hugo - he's had a bad year in club football, despite captaining a WC winning team. His age will start to count against his value from now on.
Mitch Vorm - Contract's up and Gazza's form is much better and we need non-home grown spots.
Aurier - Has been poor far more often than is acceptable. Not a PL winning footballer. Trippier is better, KWP's younger, both are home grown.
Ben Davies - Increasingly injury prone and nowhere near the player of early last season. I like him but he's stalling, when he should be kicking on as a senior pro.
Danny Rose - Is playing well but have bridges really been mended? His loose lips are still unhelpful.
Toby Alderweireld - He's gonna be a big miss, if he goes.
Big Vic - Unless there's a massive improvement in his fitness, it's the end of the road.
Eric Dier - this'll shake up a few. He's not extended his contract, unlike Sonny, Dele and HK and an exit has to be considered. Was strongly rumoured to fancy a move to United and did nothing to dissuade Mourinho.
Christian Eriksen - He can't leave for nothing, no matter what his agent and Real Madrid might want. He'll have to be sold if he won't sign.
Eric Lamela - His inability to play multiple back-to-back games is a problem.
Lucas Moura - I still get the impression that MP doesn't trust him. If others are fit, he starts on the bench.
Fernando Llorente - See Mitch Vorm. I think that Troy Parrot will start to take the back-up spot next season.
That's twelve players, half the squad. I doubt that two thirds of them will leave together but I'd be surprised if it was less than half.

You missed Tripps off as well, who's living on borrowed time. I think we're on for a shake up in the summer, the group of players hasn't evolved a huge amount since Poch joined. The three priority positions (in terms of needing someone who can come in and compete for a starting position immediately) are RB, CM and a wide forward/striker who can play like Son. Eriksen will need replacing too if he leaves and we'll also need a young CB to bring through behind the current incumbents if/when Toby goes. So that could be 5 in 5 out at the very least.
As with Rose/Davies, I have doubt whether we'd get rid of both at once and home grown is a big factor for Rose and Trippier, although Aurier and Davies are younger. That said, if we can pick up Chilwell and Wan Bissaka (I wish), then...

I think we are limited financially which is no surprise having just built the stadium. However I don't think that has anything to do with the change regarding Janssen.
I mentioned it elsewhere (the transfer thread I think) that imo something had happened with Janssen and he had refused to make it right until the last couple of days.
Pochettino said that he'd spoken to the squad about his decision to include Janssen which indicates something happened.
Kane is ahead of schedule (wasn't supposed to be training until March but has already started), son is back and Llorente may (fingers crossed) have turned a corner so the idea that Janssen is included cos of squad problems doesn't work for me.
Obviously I could be wrong though,

Isn't Davies 'homegrown' for PL purposes. He's excluded for UEFA comps bizarrely.
Agree he's not been at his best this season but he was getting there before picking up the groin strain. He also has done well in recent months covering for Verts. Think his versatility defensively is a factor in keeping him even as a backup. But not a backup to Rose, who is flakey on and off the pitch.

Yes, Davies has differing status. Given the price of home grown, oven-ready talent, disposing of Rose would be a big call. Davies up to a point. The problem of replacing him is he's not going to bring in enough funds to replace him with anyone significantly better and KWP's no left back.
As I said, I like him and that he can play LCB in a three, which is useful. However, he needs to get his performance levels back up or he will be under threat.
