One story I remember from Wenger's early days at Arsenal was he was met with a chorus of "But George Graham did it this way..." from the players every time he attempted to change tactics, training drills, diet, or having them smear a massive gob of Vick's on their shirt for no logical reason, so it doesn't surprise me that Moyes tried to get ahead of that by installing his own coaching team instead of have both players and coaches greet his decisions with "But Sir Alex did it this way..." - but IIRC he didn't have the pick of he coaches he wanted to bring with him from Everton so his coaching staff had several gaps in it, gaps which could have been filled with the existing coaches
