There was Luc Nilis also, the Aston Villa player, I remember he had a bad leg break similar to this. Not nice to see, I hope McCarthy makes a full and speedy recovery.
They're blaming the Everton approach and rightly so but only to a degree.
I pointed out when Silva was the best thing since sliced bread that he had seriously underwhelmed as Hull manager, allowing survival to slip through his fingers with a terrible 0-2 defeat to Swansea at home after the hard work was done and dusted. Then the way in which they allowed us to beat them 7-1 on the final day was an abject display of unprofessionalism that their fans didn't deserve to witness. The blame for both things starts at the top.
I also pointed out that Watford have followed a similar pattern for 3 years now. Same thing under Flores and Mazzerri - headline winning first third/half of the season followed by a winter collapse and a large slice of humble pie, then the manager is sacked and replaced by the next man to "take them to the next level". They're going round in circles and have well and truly fallen for the myth that there is a fast-track to success in this league. There is if you're City or Chelsea. Otherwise the only realistic model is ours under ENIC. 15 years and counting.
So yes, it may be that Everton are to blame. But it also may be that both club and manager are simply repeating past mistakes.
Was hoping that Burnley would not lose to Man Utd

Watford sack Marco Silva, they’re 10th and only recently turned down Everton’s approach with £15million offered for him. Bizarre doesn’t even come close to describing the situation.
Myopic? Idiotic? Unreasonable? Brainless? Ill-advised?
A few games without a win and all the good work he's done is forgotten.
Did their board expect Watford to be doing better than half of the PL with 60% of the season gone? That's what they're doing, but it's not good enough.

I think that Watford should get some perspective on this. The BBC are reporting their response as follows:
"Watford said they were "convinced" that 40-year-old Silva's appointment in May "was the right one" and, without "the unwarranted approach" they would have "continued to prosper".
"This has been a difficult decision and one not taken lightly," the club added.
"The catalyst is that approach, something which the board believes has seen a significant deterioration in both focus and results to the point where the long-term future of Watford has been jeopardised."
FFS, there's not a day goes by where a couple of our players and our manager are linked with teams that Everton can't hold a candle to. Mauricio Pochettino has been linked to Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and United, not to mention the Argentine national side. Sure, it's unsettling but it's the way of the modern game If you have something of interest to a team with greater appeal than you, then as a club, it needs to be managed.
In sporting terms, it would be great if all teams started with a group of players and a manager/coach that they stuck with throughout that season but football is entertainment now, not just sport. The transfer window's not going away and big clubs aren't going to allow themselves to be prevented from doing what they want as far as coaches are concerned. Everton made an approach and offered compensation. Watford need to get over themselves.
What makes Watford look really bad is that they pretty much just gave the rest of the Premier League the green light to tap up the likes of Richarlison and Doucoure by advertising that some mild prodding from Everton is enough to make the club act rashly with little forethought, so if someone a little further up the food chain prods a little harder they'll have a new player within a fortnight.
Teams like Arsenal and Southampton royally piss me off. They literally exist to strengthen our rivals.
