Capello, Heynckes, Pelligrini, Hiddink to name a few are hardly queuing outside the dole centre begging for jobs. Any manager could leave or be sacked at Real and walk into another job.
He's come in for half a season, got you 3rd place, taken you to a semi final in the FA cup and won you the Europa. Not bad considering everyone wanted shot of him and wouldn't give him a chance. How does he NOT deserve the Chelsea job?
Benitez did very well. Chelsea's problem, like City, is that it's hard to keep so many highly paid stars motivated all the time, especially when they can't play every game and many of them are big time Charlies, bought at great expense and used to being the star attraction. It's also difficult to get the best from young players, who see little prospect of a first team breakthrough and if they are prospects, finish up playing for other clubs on loan. This is why Chelsea fans can brag about how good their team is on their day, but don't see 100% consistent effort anmd determination over the season - translating into a 10 or 20 point deficit in the title race. All things considered, Rafa's worked miracles actually!
Since he came in our form has been 5th best. Closer to Liverpool/Everton than Spurs/Arsenal even. He had a piss easy run in all the cups as well. He did a good job and his rotation policy did actually pay off dividends and kept us injury-free but we shouldn't pretend it was Moses parting the red sea here, he did a good job with a very talented side.
It has nothing to do with that at all. Reason why we have dropped off in the league is because the board have shrunk the squad. It's no coincidence that since 10/11 when major squad cull began we haven't had the squad to last the full distance. It has nothing to do with effort or determination, I wouldn't expect consistency from players new to English football that are playing between 70-90 games a season.
Seriously?? you're dismissing everything Luke says? You really think a bigger squad is the answer, rubbish, its the same size, 25 players like everyone else! the quality of those players is another thing, Marin, Moses and Benayoun aren't Chelsea players imo, based on who you've had in the past. Torres, main man at Atletico and Pool, not while Drogba was about. Also, where do you get 70-90 games from? even Petr Cech has only played 63 times, Mata and Ramires are similar, you've been in the PL, FAC, LC, CL and the EL, not to mention the Supercup/World Club thing, just how many more comps is there to enter and succeed in to rack up that amount of games. Talking cack again DL!
Pulis is leaving Stoke, apparently. Could be interesting, depending upon who they bring in to replace him. Be careful what you wish for...
Hadn't noticed that but he is, isn't he? Had we got him a month earlier he'd probably already be in the top 5/6 longest serving current PL managers!
Yup, but for the likes of Steve Clarke, Brendan Rodgers, Laudrup, Hughton, Lambert, who were all appointed in the month before him, he would be well up there! Amazing isn't it...
