Mate we don't go straight into the CL group stages because we won Europa, we will only do that if we finish 3rd
So do we have to listen to that annoying "champions of Europe, we know what we are" song for another year now?! It'll be quite ironic to hear Chelsea sing that same song about the EL, after belittling the competition for so many years.
The Europa won't exist soon as they're thinking of scrapping it and incorporating it into one big CL. The sooner the better I think.
Well done Chelsea. Got battered in the 1st half but Chelsea hung on in there. 2nd half was fairly equal I reckon, benfica had more possession but Chelsea had chances. You have to admire that they just don't know when they're beaten, must take some belief to not let your head drop when you're up against it like 1st half last night and numerous times in the CL last year. They keep doing it, it can't be all luck
Just been watching the rather unpleasant sight of that horse's arse Terry desperately trying to wrestle the trophy from Lampard's hands. What an all round thoroughly objectionable character he is!
I don't care what they say, they are still buying success, they bought Hazard,Oscar Moses and ba last year, the only other team in the P/L that could afford to do that is Man city
yeah, congrats to them on winning it. They just know how to win trophies don't they?! so TMT, this "merge"... does that mean we might actually get into it?
Sadly I'm being sent on a business trip to Monaco on Saturday until Tuesday so I won't get to see the action at the weekend, entertaining potential clients and all that crap so to say I'm a little dischuffed is putting it softly.
Congrats to Chelsea. However, it is only fair that they are given the opportunity to defend their Trophy like they were granted last year. The only drawback would be is that they wouldn't be able to play in the CL as well. The way I see it the team finishing 5th would have to drop out of the Ropey League and play in the CL in their stead in order to give the Chavs their place. What do others think?
I really don't see how that is lucky. If your score in the first minute or the last, how is one more 'lucky' than the other? We won a corner and Ivan put in a great header - nothing lucky about it. If anything, luck has gone against us in the E.L this year. I think we had 5 penalties given against us of which only 2 were correct decisions (though last nights was correct).
True. All you have to do is spend money and you will win stuff. Just look at Liverpool these past couple of years, and City this season; they pretty much swept the board. Oh hang on... didn't Swansea and Wigan win the domestic cups this year!?!? Real Madrid have spent hundreds of millions to win the C.L in the last few years and haven't made a final in a decade. Not all about money, it helps of course but not all about money.
92nd minute, opposition has no time to come back although they nearly did, good fortune but well done anyway.
I don't think you really believe that. You are saying it just to try to justify the situation. Do you really put Chelsea in the same basket as Swansea and Wigan-who have now been relegated because they used all their resources to win the FA cup but whose squad wasn't big enough. Chelsea were lucky to be in CL this season and failed! and were lucky that the stupid rules say they can then be rewarded for failure in one competition by playing in another one.
Talk about miss the point!! I'm saying Wigan and Swansea won titles despite having little money therefore proving money doesn't just buy success. Lots of factors, including team spirit etc.
You are the one missing the point and obviously blinded by your success. Yes Wigan won a cup without money but that has cost them big time.
Chelsea win a competition they only entered through failing in the CL and which they can't defend because they are hotfooting it back to the CL again. Is it really worth parading the trophy? Can't UEFA see how this devalues the EL? A consolation prize for one of the elite clubs, which is then cast aside in the blink of an eye because, in truth, it's meaningless compared to their main priorities. It should revert to what it was before- a chance of a trophy for the second tier of European clubs who have no chance of winning the CL.
