I don’t want us to qualify for CL we have no chance of winning it Europa is more our level and Levy needs to know this why do people want us to qualify for CL? nothing changes regards our growth all them years of qualifying and here we are Fighting for top 4 for the 14th year running boring
I tend to agree. As far as I see it, the only real advantage of qualifying is that it opens up a bigger budget for Ange and makes us a more attractive club to potential signings.
Saddest thing as well is that if we'd taken Europa seriously over the years we could've definitely gone far, both players and managers have mugged that comp off as if we've got bigger fish to fry. Likewise in the Conference a couple years ago, we were bookies joint favourites to win it, didn't even get out the group ffs which included a loss to the lowest ranked team. Don't get why a club like us who've not won anything for ages act like we're above multiple competitions. Go Europa next season, make some good signings and have a proper crack at it.
I can remember Spurs forgetting to turn up in a European CL Final a few seasons ago. Seems Man U forgot to turn up against Arsenal AT HOME this weekend. My question is.... were the Spurs and United players actually paid for their performances,or lack of? (Or fired if they worked for a living!)
Bill Nicholson would be turning in his grave. We need to aim high not low. With the new formats next year the Europa League is even more of a second division trophy. The reason our progress is taking such a long time is that we started so far behind. We need as much income as possible to build the squad further not a half baked low glory day winning the second division. I don't want Arsenal to win the League but I care 100 times more about what Spurs do than anything about them.
I just simply want Spurs to win games as we play them I don't really care what particular competition it is we are playing. Where we are as a club makes it important to qualify for Europe for the retention and development of the squad. By the way Dortmund is the 9th largest City in Germany and they are in the CL Final. The 9th largest city in England is Coventry. Coventry won the FA Cup in 1987 who do you think they beat? Win games and play good football, I don't ask a lot
By the way I estimate that our chance of winning the CL is somewhere between 1 in 12 and one in 20 and our chance of winning the Europa is between 1 in 4 and 1 in 10. Our chances of winning the PL or the FA Cup or the League Cup are somewhere in between. Nothing in football is certain so aim high.
Life is too short to have this dream you have been promoting since the first brick was laid for the new stadium tbh. like I said we have not moved on much, I’d even take it if we were regularly fighting for 2nd or 3rd nowadays but we are not…we are still trying to scrape 4th most seasons, just like we did with that last gasp Crouch over a decade ago. However ENICs leisure and entertainment complex built under the guise of THFC has rocketed…I don’t see much having happened on the pitch in that time, we are still begging our way to 4th spot, relying on others slip ups. We, as fans, do aim high, ENIC don’t aim high for THFC though
And there you are dreaming. Whether you like it or not the facts show that the last 20 years under ENIC have seen Spurs become an established top 6 club. I'm afraid it's all about money and a clubs status in the PL is dependent on income. ENIC have done more to increase revenues than any other owners in the history of Spurs. We all dream it's part of being a fan but you have to be aware of some realities in a game that has been taken over by the money men. As owners go, the current PSR rules show Spurs to be in the best position to operate in the transfer market because Levy has kept a reign on spending and the bottom line. The proof of this is that in a transition season we are still in the top 6. Villa are teetering on PSR to compete with us.
We might have got out of the group if Rennes didn't bitch out of our fixture, which we were mystifyingly punished for
I would be very happy to take a shortcut...but there hasn't been a safe one so far. Thinking that we ought to settle for winning the second division is a terrible mentality. Back in the day when only Champions were in the European Cup, the UEFA Cup was often a stronger completion but even then I would have preferred the opportunity to win the senior trophy
There are no groups next year just a single league with all 36 entrants who play 8 matches each. Seeded draw so probability of 2/9 that we play the holders.
You are demonstrating an interesting ability in calculating odds today. I was wondering what the chance of me getting home without stabbing the boss is? To aid in your calculations I should mention I have easy access to scalpels and stanley knives (and if that fails, some very large hammers). Incidentally none of this enquiry should be replicated in court.
