Was he taking the piss? Phelan's managerial experience consists of a few days at Norwich and a few months at Hull. Plenty of time as an assistant and a coach, but no guiding hand to save the Ole bus, for me.
We have an Italian Director of Football so it would make sense to have an Italian manager (rather that than Spanish or Portuguese) with British managers being out of fashion. So all those of you who know about these guys how about any of the following? Simone Inzaghi (yes the younger brother of Phillipi) or Massimiliano Allegri or Luciano Spalletti You can look them up on Wikipedia if you need to. Any thoughts Great names if nothing else and all might play a more exciting brand of football. The sideways brand is beyond anything I want to spend time watching. I like football that targets the opposition goal as the direction of travel.
Just taken over at Inter, Juve and Napoli, respectively. Conte and Pirlo are the only two that are available that I can think of.
All three only joined their clubs in the summer so very unlikely they’d leave any time soon unless sacked, especially Allegri and Spalletti, who are at clubs better than ours at present. Gasperini was briefly linked with us in the summer but I think he said the rumours were false. He’s done brilliant work at Atalanta but does need to be said he’s managed a lot of other clubs in the past without the same level of success he’s had at his current club.
The only Italian manager I wouldn’t mind seeing at Spurs is Roberto Mancini but there’s no chance of that happening
Conte supposedly interested in the Utd job but no offer's been made yet... It's inevitable isn't it? Conte in before we face them. The damage he'll be able to do with that squad as well... Be similar to what Tuchel's done with Chelsea.
Solskjaer's position is so untenable now. The club can't afford for all this negative publicity to damage the brand. I can see him dismissed and possibly Conte in by the weekend. No midweek fixture for Utd, so nothing else to focus on. Conte won't be able to do what Tuchel has done; the defence is poor and there is no control in midfield. whoever is picked. I'm sure he will improve the team if he's appointed, but not enough to threaten the current PL top three and the best in Europe - he'll need a couple of good transfer windows for that. And he might decide to be ruthless with what he's got. What's the future for the likes of Pogba and Martial? And those on the fringes like Mata, van der Beek, Matic, Lingard, Bailly, Jones (remember him) - there's a lot of dead wood.
On the subject of Conte, CaughtOffside have alleged that the reason we passed on Conte in the summer is because he and his agent Federico Pastorello were taking bungs when in charge of Chelsea, with their signing of Emerson Palmieri being specifically mentioned as a deal where this was taking place If they don't post a retraction by Friday, it's fair to assume that they're onto something
