Ironically, it's United's lack of precision in the penalty area that results in more penalties.
Presented with same opportunities, Liverpool or City tend to take the defenders out of the equation with sharper passing and greater awareness.
Utd give defenders a chance to make a tackle or interception because the play is more disjointed - except when it's at pace on the counter and there are wide open spaces. Then Utd are pretty clinical.
It's inevitable that when a team gets a lot of possession in the opposition box, but invites tackles, there will be more fouls.
But these aren't old style penalties where the defender brings down a flying forward with a rash last-ditch tackle; these are modern day penalties where multiple TV cameras and VAR enable every handball or mistimed tackle or overly physical contact to be spotted and analysed.
Nobody likes it because nobody likes the way the game has changed.
Who'd have thought some random Norwegian would have more influence over refs than Sir AlexNot seen any other teams get as many soft penalties (by soft I’m being generous) as Utd have since OGS took charge.
42 in all competitions in 2 years is outrageous

That was pre-VAR in an era when Utd camped out in the opposition penalty area, especially at OT and defenders dared to make challenges. And if you look at the stats, Utd didn't get more penalties.I remember a few years ago you said Utd get more penalties because they attack more than other teams and we all disagreed with you then. Now you have a new excuse.
I’ll repeat myself again 42 penalties in 2 years is outrageous. Go watch them individually and tell me they’re all legit penalties.
If Spurs spent more time attacking we would get more penalties.
Ole's at the wheelBut still not as many as Utd
42 in 2 years under OGS, significantly more than any other team
You know what with the current regime at our club, and the fact that even if we were playing brilliantly we still wouldn't get many penalties, it's all kind of getting too much for me. Seriously, I'm on the verge of giving up football completely, at least the PL variety. I mean, what's the point? You've got VAR showing you what's going on, but all it's doing is presenting a "second chance" - a chance to find a misdemeanor to chalk off a goal against, or a second chance to find a penalty if needed. Or indeed, to be completely ignored if the circumstances require. The idea that this crap United team could be joint top is making me feel ill, without the officials support they'd probably be mid table! I very rarely swear, so you know that when I do it really means something. Well United are just ****ing cheats, and the officials are ****s.
