Well you knew somehow Sterling would find a way to hit the deck, albeit with a bit of help! I liked the commentator's suggestion that City were holding their own. Hell, they've bought half of World Football, they should have an advantage.Pep's plan? Come on!
Sterling was already horizontal when Carvajal came in with the challenge. The whole 'but there would have been contact anyway' argument has never sat well with me. A dive is a dive. And Sterling is a prodigious diver.
The first goal was dreadful.6 defenders went for De what's his face, yet he turned left and crossed.Goal! With Ramos the wrong side of the scorer! Perhaps it's time for Real to buy the rest of World Football!!!? Funny thing. Real were winning until they brought Gareth Bale on. Just saying!
Jesus too, Ramos barely touches the arm yet Jesus tumbled like a bitch. Could turn out to be a ‘smart’ red by Ramos though as 3-1 would’ve killed off the tie. 2-1 at least gives a bit of hope of a turnaround, even if unlikely.
We need to find a way to convince their management that Alderweirled, Aurier, Wanyama and Dier would be excellent Galacticos.
Yeah Ramos has done that umpteen times in his career. He is 100% Real first, Sergio second. He knew exactly what he was doing, Jesus knew exactly what was coming and waited for the hand on the back to begin his long jump. I think added theatrics were probably because he wanted to con the officials into giving a penalty. Whereas Sterling was mid-air before Carvajal was born.
This is a part of the dark arts I was alluding too on Spurf’s thread the other day and why I said he’s one of my favourite players. Some will find it unsavoury but he’s putting the team’s best interests above his own personal glory and reputation. Not all of his 26 reds and countless yellows have been for those exact reasons but the guy just “gets it” when it comes to trying to win a game/ not lose a game by doing whatever it takes.
I found Michael Dawson was always Spurs first, Daws second. And he did that all the while being an exemplary professional and gentleman. The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
£200k a week the last time I checked. Think only Thiago Silva earns more at PSG, although there was a rumour Juventus were paying De Ligt an absolute fortune but I’m unsure how true it was, some reports said £400k!
Absolutely and it’s why Daws was so loved here. Didn’t have the same ****housery as Ramos, nor was he as good a leader or player (good enough though!) but he’d take a bullet for this club. If only we could transfer his mentality to the majority of the current team.
Yeah I like that about some players, they will sacrifice themselves for the team even if it means they miss out personally because they know how important it is for the team to win the big games and trophies. Obviously he’s the main man but with Harry Kane, I sometimes feel he’s more about himself than the team. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because it might mean he spends longer at Spurs to try to break Jimmy Greaves record.
