By the same token it's clear that Swansea aren't a Premier League club, as they frequently haven't been in the past.
Everton also qualified for Europe, as they've done it a lot.

That is nearly as good as I could've put it!:D

DL on the other hand, would appear to have put that in his pipe and gone off to smoke it. :)

It's in the gossip that Hazard chose Chelsea over us because of the CL. It'll be interesting to see his reaction if Chelsea fail to make it through the group stage heee heee heee.

I'm sure the extra however much a week he earns helped too. City and United were also interested so it was always going to be about who will throw the most money at him, which we'd never win.

The phrasing used was our "failure to make the Champions League" - erm, we didn't fail to qualify for the CL, UEFA failed to pretend it wasn't a closed shop for a select band of clubs.

You did fail otherwise you would be in it this year wouldn't you.

Why do you think UEFA has a Spurs vendetta? The rules have been clearly understood by most of the world for some time now. Trouble is you all got excited too soon and wrote off our chances of winning.

Writing off our chances by your good-selves seems strange really as it appears to be a common belief on this board that we are blessed with luck in spades and have the good fortune of biased refereeing. Surely you would have foreseen us winning and also have realised that you would not have been in the CL a prior to the 19th May. Would have given yourselves time to adjust and not go all sulky after the 19th!

Why are you actually here? Apart from to let more people know that you are a little bit of a prick?

Indeed. How many times has that rule been invoked anywhere in Europe since it came about? Once I believe. In other words under any normal circumstances we did qualify, as opposed to Chelski who were two places below us but scraped through by some of the most outrageous luck ever seen in football.

I heard that (reported) Hazard comment earlier and it did rather annoy me because of the way that the relative CL qualification came about. It was also said that he "also needed convincing that Chelsea would play in a more attacking style this season", yeah well (1) the conversation probably went "Here's £150k per week, are you now convinced?" and (2) if the style of play was really important to him then based on last season's evidence he would have obviously chosen Spurs. When I first heard about him it was Spurs who were more in the running for his signature, the Chelski development came much later, presumably in line with the amount of money on offer.

Where did I say UEFA had an anti-Spurs vendetta exactly? Here's a hint, I didn't - I said "UEFA failed to pretend it wasn't a closed shop for a select band of clubs" which is not in any way related to your (remarkably wrong) interpretation.

UEFA rules state that finishing in the top four of the Premier League 2011/12 season was enough to qualify for the Champions League, yet a team that did exactly that did not qualify. Why? Because UEFA decided that co-efficients were more important, as well as stringing a line that they couldn;t have five teams from one league in the tournament (despite the fact that the 2005/6 tournament featured Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool - that's five clubs from one league, therefore precident for saying that they can and have allowed five teams from one league into the tournament)

UEFA also state that a team found guilty of match-fixing would be expelled from their competitions, yet Fenerbahce - who were found to be at the centre of a match-fixing scandal in Turkey last season - are permitted into this season's Champions League, and once again their attempt to explain away this obvious anomaly is to bang on about co-efficients again.

Spurs did not fail to qualify for the Champions league, because we did everything to qualify for the tournament. There's only one party that failed in this instance, and it's UEFA, as they demonstrated once again the Champions League is a closed shop, and hide behind talk of co-efficients instead of using common sense.

If anything, that makes UEFA pro-Chelsea than anti-Spurs.

It must be tough to have rivals that have a much better history, stadium, squad, manager and fans than you.

Your lucky that there are a lot of clubs in London that can be your rivals, similar clubs to Spurs like QPR, West Ham , Fulham and Charlton.
