Neymar has been "given permission" to leave Barca in a deal worth up to £195m. This move could spark a domino affect across Europe now. Let's hope Barca don't come sniffing around N17 for a replacement. Unless of course that replacement is a 27 year old French international who used to play for Newcastle.
Wow. Looks like the executive board of La liga have stepped in to block the transfer, saying that they doubt PSG can afford the fee and comply with FFP rules at the same time. This is going to be the biggest soap opera in global football since Ferguson kicked a boot at Beckham's face.
Don't forget their bid for Paulinho. I love the way that they're trying to make out that he's been allowed to leave. It's like someone shouting that you're fired as you walk out the door after resigning.
La Liga showing it's true colours and throwing it's toys out of the pram. How dare anyone do to them what they've done to other people for decades?!
Now UEFA officials have released a statement telling La liga to go forth and multiply, and that this is no-one's business other than the two clubs involved. ***grabs popcorn***
To whom it may concern : Re the proposed transfer of Neymar from Barcelona to PSG. While it is not general UEFA policy to intervene in the transfer market (other than to ensure the Premier League does not gain a stranglehold on winning the Champions League) , an exception must be made in this specific case. The issue is not the size of the transfer fee, nor its implications regarding the UEFA FFP rules (as you well aware we are always willing to rewrite the rules to accommodate you) , but a specific complaint from the board at Real Madrid regarding the dangerous precedent the Neymar transfer will set. As you may be aware, whenever they need to placate their plastic supporters, Real Madrid seek to buy players from Tottenham Hotspur. Four years after being rinsed by Daniel Levy on the sale of Gareth Bale, their directors are only now able to sit down without using a rubber ring as a cushion. Their fear is that after the Neymar transfer, the cost of Harry Kane or Dele Alli will be so be large that both the city of Madrid will become bankrupt and no rubber ring exists for subsequent cushion needs. We sincerely hope that you will take the above into consideration when agreeing the final transfer fee for Neymar, for the sake of your Champions League counterpart. Yours Faithfully, Curt Case-Pending
Interesting how the "unlimited" funds of PSG are apparently different from the "unlimited" funds of ManC. Surely Citeh have actually (or are intending to) spend even more than PSG, yet somehow (!) manage to avoid FFP. Not saying either is right or wrong, just that whilst the transfer market is mad enough as it is, it's even more insane when you need to compete with clubs that manage expenditure that is not even related to the size of their stadium + the size of the TV deal + the amount they earn from the CL. The sad thing being that traditionally it is thought that the additional revenue that the CL and larger stadium brings makes teams able to compete with these "financially unlimited" clubs, the truth is that they can always up their income irrespective of any reasonable accounting practice.
Been thru this before. 1. UEFA covets the monies pouring into the PL, and therefore hates the PL. 2. Citeh are a PL club and PSG are not. So under the auspices of the UEFA FFP rules, which of the two do you believe on punishment will suffer at all / first / worst ??
The real question is why would anyone would want to pay £198M for Neymar? He's not that good. He'd looked overpriced at a third of that.
Branding, both for PSG and the Qatar World Cup. He's their poster boy. It's a statement signing. PSG have got one over Barcelona, too.
People genuinely don't believe me when I say, twenty years ago, the most sought-after player in world football paid off his release clause out of his own pocket so he could leave Barca and play in Serie A. This might make them realise I'm not making that one up...
Yup. Similarly, when I was asked for proof of age at Argos a few months back, I responded by saying I remember the day Wimbledon won the FA Cup - and the shop assistant didn't believe me.
Jose Moronho says the £198m fee for Neymar is "not expensive" Never, ever ask this profligate psychopath for financial advice.
