This is attractive to fans and to sponsors. It helps sell shirts; it helps ensure money keeps flowing into the club. Sponsors want maximum publicity; they also want to be associated with the show of wealth and ambition - this helps sell their products. They'd rather be synonymous with the richest club in the world than say, the most successful in England last season, Leicester City.

So what Samsung were trying to say is :

We come from a nation that eats dogs.
Therefore sponsoring Chelsky is not culturally disgusting to us.

Right ??

This is what people fail to appreciate with the Pogba transfer. It was better for Utd to pay £89M and break the world record than not do so.
The fee generates publicity. It puts the club on the front and back pages. Even though Utd aren't presently competing for the top honours, it makes a statement of intent and keeps the profile of the club high. It says "we are still the biggest club."

We live in times where people want to see an ostentatious show of wealth - it's a career move for some (look at the likes of the Karshardians etc). You don't have to show that you're successful, just wealthy. People aren't interested whether it's deserved or not - just that you've got it. Football is a bling sport nowadays.
If buying Pogba draws in an extra £50M in income each year for the next two or three years (which it will, if you believe the accountants), then it's good business. And football is primarily about business these days.

You're right Lidls but let's be frank; that business model only works if you've got £89m floating around in the first place, which only 4-5 clubs in the entire world do.

I remember an off the cuff remark from Ibrahimovic when he 'told' United to sign Pogba 'as my shirt sales will pay his wages'. Sad truth is he probably wasn't that wrong.

The actual quote was Ibrahimovic telling Man Utd that his shirt sales would buy Don Mino Raiola another mansion.

Surely you don't let your mum clean out the cat litter tray do you Smithy?
I used to,when she was alive! But since I got married many years ago she wouldn't have been happy.i had 7 cats at one time. All living in the basement.Quite happy.
2 meals a day and 5 cat boxes for me to clean..
Now we have 4 dogs and 3 cats.
I now call my basement "the emirates". It stinks in there!!!!!

'MBAPPE AT REAL IS POSSIBLE'

A Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe strike partnership could be a possibility at Real Madrid, admits club president Florentino Perez.

"A duo of Benzema and Mbappe? Everything is possible," Perez told RMC. "But at this time of the season, I don't want to talk about that. We don't talk about players of other teams. Right now, all we are thinking about is how to win La Liga and the Champions League.

"We don't talk about players of other teams." Okay, who put the LSD in my cocoa?

Funny thing growing up in Tottenham. When we lived in Lordship Lane with uncle, aunts and grandparents, everyone was a Spurs fan. Today,my brother in law is a couch Man U fan.His oldest son supports Notts Forest (?) and the other one in Wisconsin supports Arsenal. Where did the parents go wrong?

In Africa you see loads of Chavs and goons shirts, occasional Citeh and very very old Mouser shirts plus loads of Barca and Really Maddogs. THe only Spurs shirts you see I've probably given away.

Lots in SE Asia too but fake shirts don't count...

A few years ago my niece came to our house. She must have been 11 and stood on the doorstep in her brand new Arsenal shirt, grinning at how upset I'd be. I said for her to come round to the back garden where I informed her she couldn't wear 'that thing' in my house and that I'd go and get her one of my daughter's T-shirts. Still the smile, until I shut the door and went and got a T-shirt.

"When you've put that on, you'll be welcome to come in. Leave the shirt outside."

Bless her, she did.

Did you bury the Arsenal shirt in your back garden,"Brian"? Best place for it.....

It was handed back on departure. I saw her a few weeks ago at a birthday bash. I asked her

"How's the whole Arsenal supporting thing going?"

"Don't support them no more, they're rubbish....."

At this point I am ready to rip the piss mercilessly....

"I'm Chelsea now....they always win"

What's happened to kids these days? Where's the suffering? When I was a kid everyone hit us and you supported yur team through Terry Neill and Ian Moores and kept on spending your pocket money on Admiral replica shirts that your mother would attack with an iron hotter than the sun, burning it until it was the size of a postage stamp.

I've become old.
