So Sunderland have done the inevitable and sacked Poyet. They will find it easier to attract a new man than it will be for Poyet to get another job.

Who will they go for though? Maybe Allardyce will jump ship before they make him walk the plank, or maybe Warburton could be pursuaded to leave early but other than that I can't think of any obvious candidates. Anyway, time for Curbishley to buy a red and white tie and get his arse down to SSN to talk about the job <whistle>

He really is a dour, arrogant manager. Was never willing to take responsibility and at times blamed poor results on the fans!

His team played crap football, he brought in absolutely terrible players and it showed in his results. This is a blessing for Sunderland.

Poyet was stinking the place out with his negativity.

Not as bad as di Canio, but I'd say only slightly better.

Nigel Adkins?

Advocaat appears to be the bookies early favourite. You'd have to be a dick to take that job! <laugh>
They need a change of culture in the dressing room and a clearout, from what I've heard. Too many pissheads and unprofessionals.

Who would want the job?

How does anyone keep Sunderland up with those players? From the way they performed v City, Burnley look far superior.

They have West Ham, Stoke, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea away. So they need home points from Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Leicester. I think we said this last season and they won at Chelsea and got some other notable results away, but I can't see it happening again.

Hull have applied for a name change, again. <doh>
What's wrong with that bloody owner? For ****'s sake.

It's only a matter of time before they go down. I genuinely think they may well have the worst set of players in the league.

Hasn't Curbishley just taken up a coaching role at Fulham ?

You've been reading The Secret Footballer.

I don't think that they're that bad and they've certainly got a few decent players in their squad, but their attitude is often appalling and unprofessional.
Their defense is a shambles, but they rarely seem to be that up for games, barring their local derby.

I did read that piece, but I know a Sunderland fan who's told me a few stories, too.
How the club tolerates it, I don't know.

For anyone that missed it: http://www.thesecretfootballer.com/...ohnson-a-15-year-old-child-a-dangerous-world/
Bear in mind that Dave Kitson played with Johnson at Boro.

Who was bragging? Seriously you need to go back and read again, especially what PowerSpurs said because that's where you went wrong.

I'd agree with you that being better against the lower sides is more of a perception about Arsenal this season that doesn't necessarily ring true, certainly not as much as it has done in past seasons anyway.

The flaws in your theory about us having to have an equal or greater record against top sides are easy to spot, however. You're including cup games for a start, not the point PowerSpurs was making. Also as you've pointed out yourself, you've played less games against the top sides than us which means you've played more against the lower sides so why does that mean "one would therefore assume that Spurs were actually just as good as Arsenal at beating the 'good' teams"? The simple answer is it doesn't.
What's wrong with including cup games? They're still games against 'good' teams. PowerSpurs mentions nothing about cup or league... just performance against good and bad teams.

Martin Jol ??

There's some talk about Allardyce. Might only be his agent trying to force West Ham to renew his contract, though.

PowerSpurs also mentions nothing about us being as good against better opposition, he also made no mention of what sides would be included in that either. None of that has stopped you including whatever results you felt like, or didn't feel like(see Spurs omission and cup games added).

Anyway, your whole point was that, based on what PowerSpurs wrote, we would have to be as good or better than you against the better sides. Why don't you just explain why that is? There's a clear argument against it, as I've shown.

Martin Jol ??

I think his stock took a big hit at Fulham, particularly as a manager for a potentially relegation battling side. I still think he did an excellent job with us but I just cannot work out how he thought a side with Berbatov would benefit from having Taraabt and Bent added to the attack. For me that's a real stain on his record, everyone knew it wouldn't work except for him apparently. I'd almost put it up there with Holloway not knowing how many players he can include in his Premier League squad, it was just so unbelievable.

I'd love to see him back in the Premier League but I think it would be a big gamble from Sunderland.

Plus of course Allardyce did play for Sunderland and ex players who are in management often get linked.
Hey, if West Ham don't offer him anything then he might take it.
It's not like he's going to piss the Geordies off any more than he already has, is it? <laugh>
