But thats the beauty of football, we all appreciate different aspects of the game and personally I would rather we defended like our lives depended on it and got a positive result as sometimes in football that just what you have to do, to get the job done!
Yes, Chelsea got the result they wanted. But look how they did it! They played totally negative football in both their home game, and tonight. They never had any intention of doing anything else right from the start of the tie, it's not as if they adapted, and changed tactics due to circumstances. Yes, great siege defending. But, if that's where football is going, it will be without me!
And why should they? Tonight, they had the lead and they know what they are up against. Chelsea and many teams before them only play like that against one team, and that is against Barcelona. Sometimes, you are forced to play that deep just by the sheer pressure Barcelona input in a game. Barca had so many attacking players, it was vital that Chelsea defend like they did. If Barca, can't open them up, then they do not deserve to be called the greatest club side of all time. I thought Barca at times looked utterly clueless in the second half. No varied approach and they had no full backs overlapping or anything. Football is loved by so many because you win a game or a tie in so many different ways. And that was Barca's main problem tonight, they only had one way.
In the second half, I thought it was tedious crap at times. They have previously played teams that sit that deep and they normally get though but the passing was too slow and Messi decided to have one of his worst games for years.
So is everyone saying that when Ulysses deceived Cyclops he should have asked for a boxing match instead? I am not denying that our tactics weren't exciting but come on, you have to play to your strengths to beat the best team in the world, and Chelsea just did that. Credit where its due surely?
So Spurs, stop with the tippy tappy get Bale back on the left, Lennon on the right and open up the park. Oh! and put the ball in the net.
If you'd care to look back through the thread you will find credit that is due has been given. Here's a cloth wipe the egg off yer face.
"Were"...they're 2nd in their league and you just beat them, doesn't sound like the best team in the world this season to me.
The problem with Chelsea's men behind the ball tactics (and it shouldn't be one of their strengths) is that it doesn't work as well in cup competitions as it does the league where every point counts. They still conceded twice and it could easily have been three times. Fortunately for them their attempts to counterattack succeeded on this occasion.
like we used to do not too long ago. Barca could learn a thing or two from our sublime football in the first half of this season.
Yeah, but how often do Chelsea play like that? I rarely seen them play like that in the league. Manchester City have done it far more times than Chelsea in the league. If you think Chelsea parked the bus, then wait for Mancini and City to get drawn against Barcelona.
There's a good chance Man City will face Barca or Real Madrid in the group stages next season so we'll see
