So, you like to devour rival wums with some fava beans and a nice Chianti?

The other Hannibal. Not that I'm assuming a Spanish city will be named in my honour or anything...

Anyway, there's a fundamental difference between me and Holte - he quoted statistics to prove a non-existant point. I quote statistics to puncture myths that sets of fans (or journalists) repeat ad nauseum that are either fundamentally untrue, or are fine manipulation of smoke and mirrors.

I used to bait Holte all the time, Spurf.
I managed to get him inventing new personas and dribbling like a lunatic.
I almost felt sorry for him in the end. Not quite, though.

PNP, don't remind me I was trying to put that out of my head. <yikes>

I remember complimenting you once on your patience. <laugh> I think this was after page 673 of a thread discussing.....discussing? erm something to do with 67 somethings out 130 something or other.

Riveting stuff! Yeah a bit like being riveted to the bow of the Titanic so that you could see the whole disaster from beginning to end.

And thank the gods for the end or perhaps the BBC who finally realised what the noise was and closed the whole forum.

Should we be worried?

I've just seen this myself, Ammaar.
I'm not entirely familiar with the whole case, so I've no opinion on the verdict for Evans, but I don't understand how his co-defendant was found not guilty.
Surely they were either both guilty or neither of them was?

I should be! <yikes> You'll just be off again; Right Holte point 634b? Now! taking the first 63 years into account......................................<steam>

Not exactly, Spurf.
"Villa have been better than..." Delete post. <ok>

The allegations were made in August 2011 and then they were released on bail. It turns out Evans was guilty, but yes, that doesn't quite make sense how if both of them have sex with her separately and that she was too drunk to give consent, then how can one be guilty and one not be guilty?

What I find even more sickening and just plain morally wrong was that a few people were alleged to have been recording the incident rather than trying to stop what was going on.

How drunk is too drunk, though?
If she was too drunk to consent and they were equally drunk, then surely they were also too drunk to consent and she also committed rape?

I'll read up on the evidence before I make any more comments on the subject.

Just as likely...

Remind me, we weren't we being quoted massive fees to sign Diego Capel? I ask, mainly because he's playing for Sporting Lisbon, and a little research says he moved there for about £3m...

i thought the same and he looked like he was playing with a fire up his arse..i wish we would live dangerously and go for such players at times..when we do we end up with someone like Gio..who never gets a game and i have a terrible feeling the day he gets his move he will make us all regret him not being given a run..a decent one!

i know all about his attitude etc..if only we had a good man manager <whistle>

From the Beeb's article it sounds like they didn't go to the same place as the girl, possibly he just saw her on the way back to the hotel. When McDonald took her back to the hotel he texted Evans that he "got a bird" so Evans went their, let himself in watched and then asked if he could "get involved" whilst his brother and another bloke watched through a window. It all seems weird but it definitely sounds like they were conscious of what they were doing I'm surprised all 4 didn't get done for one thing or another.

As for the guys not being consentual because of being drunk, I guess they'd have to be too hammered to be physically capable of the act for that to be the case. Being drunk enough to not remember or to do something out of character has never been a factor in whether you were guilty or not, as I understand. Therefore she must've been judged to be merely present and not aware of what was going on, rather than those two having actively participated, if that makes sense. It still begs the question as to why McDonald was found not guilty.

It's possible they wouldn't have sold us Capel anyway, given the ill-feeling at the time due to our way of trying to procure the services of Juande Ramos. But when it was known he would be moving to Sporting for a low fee (initially around £6m, yet somehow halved due to the add-ons) we should've made a bid, given we'd buried the hatchet by then.

Being so drunk that she was incapable of consenting because she was unaware of what she was doing appears to the judge's view from the CCTV footage showing her falling over before McDonald and Evans became involved. Which makes it very puzzling why one would be acquitted and the other not, especially as McDonald had sex with her first.

And picked her up. He seems to have been in a far better position to judge her level of sobriety (or not), too. Odd.

Doesn't Evans have a history of antisocial behaviour? If so, he could have violated probation for a previous charge, or it meant the judge and jury threw the book at him.

Or he could have asked former teammate and youth team graduate Joey Barton to give a character reference, which wouldn't be the brightest idea...

Evans' previous exploits would only have been relevant to the sentence though, Croydon.
McDonald was found not guilty.

A draw is probably the best result for us, Totsfan.
It's less points all round, that way. A win either way is 3, whereas a draw is only 2.
If we could then manage to get out of our slump and beat QPR, then we'd close the gap to Arsenal up quite dramatically and open up a decent one over Chelsea.
If Newcastle beat Stoke, then the pressure will really be on whoever comes off badly from the rest of us.

here's hoping that's what happens,i said a few day's ago i want a draw,i don't think drogs agreed

Tbh I wish they could both lose <laugh>

The Arsenal-Chelsea love-in on not606 is really weird - they're united in their hatred for us but in the next breath say they never consider us a threat. A contradiction methinks.

But realistically - a draw please with as many injuries as possible.

Cool.

As much as I hate Spurs I would never wish an injury on any of your players (not even Bale), so this is what Spurs fans are rooting for now, eh?
