It doesn't matter how much the facts are repeated does it? Liverpool didn't have a serious bid for Suarez!!! Once Real bid and the tapping up industry gets into full swing the only option is to secure the best price. If Real had (or are going to) bid for Suarez he becomes a Real player. Simple as that, why does this "look how strong Liverpool were" come up again and again. And it will, again.

I am not so sure. If Real bid a world record fee for Suarez in the summer they may have the resolve to tell them to F off.
Suarez behaviour in the summer was far worse than Bale's (Yes we all know the offer was not great) so if money is not their
aim but silverware with all the bonuses including financial and many of that indirectly (sponsorship, merchandise) they will keep him.
Who are we to judge we sold Modric for £30 million, compared to our 3 record signings he is worth double that, we have no resolve and our short term model will never make a successful football team.
Why can't we except and admire their determination as flagspur says
"you can,t win a title winning side by selling your best asset."

  3. If Goofy has a release clause in his contract, and that is triggered (by Arsenal, £ity, United, Real, PSG, Chavs, or whichever of a myriad of clubs who'd be able to afford to buy him), there's no way Goofy will settle for the same old bullshit as before, not after 'Pool's Yanky owner came out and admitted to having broken and dishonoured Goofy's contract last time, when Arsenal triggered the clause under his old contract. Goofy's legal team will be all over the Yank like a bad rash. Finally.

I'm not sure we can blame Levy for that, as remember when he kept Modric? he practically forced him to stay even after he sulked. Real Madrid bid a world record fee for Bale, every player has a price and Bale wanted to leave, so when you have a club bidding 80 million plus for a player who wants out then no club in world football is going to say no.

Suarez wanted out but he wanted to go to a club like Madrid, not the goons, if he really wanted to leave he could have enforced the release clause that was in his contract but Liverpool knew they could keep him as Madrid weren't interested.

I don't think Liverpool will sell Suarez, even if an £80m offer comes in, and I don't think he'll force a move away. We've just shown the world how difficult it is to deal with the loss of a world class player, despite our new signings looking like good choices prior to the season starting and I'm sure Liverpool will have that at the back of their minds.
He's just signed a new contract (which I know means nothing these days). But he is earning a fortune and Liverpool will be in the CL next season. He'll be there for at least another season, IMO.

    Agree
If they win the PL why would he want to move? Surely he'd be thinking "i'm on a lot of money here, i'm settled, playing well, the fans like me and we're in with a shot of winning it again next year".
If he left Liverpool after they'd just won the prem then he's a grade-A plank.

    Exactly. <ok>
I'm not sure what he's earning, but I think i remember hearing it was about £200-220k a week? How much more is he realistically going to get?
There's no point in him leaving this summer. Unless Liverpool think they can replace him easily and get 1 or 2 other world class players with the money
But they aren't like us. They'd spend the ££ on those 1 or 2 world class players without needing to lose suarez!

If Suarez wanted to leave and a club bid 80 million they would sell but that ship sailed as when Madrid wanted a star name to compete with Neymar, Bale was the choice and as we have seen Madrid always get their man.

But don't give liverpool praise for forcing Suarez to stay when the only club that bid where the goons, we never sold Modrid to Chelsea even though they bid 40 million so why is there an obsession with acting as if Liverpool done something spectacular when we done exactly the same with Modric?

Lets see what happens if/when Madrid, Barca etc come calling.

Not so sure on the last point. One of the pool fans said they had to sell-to-buy this summer to balance the books for 3 years time with regards to FFFP. I dunno how true that is.

where have I given Liverpool praise for forcing Suarez to stay?

This is what I'm saying though Boss, it's a different situation for Liverpool now, than it ever has been for us. They've got CL football and he's already earning a fortune, and playing at a club who are going places under Rogers.

Roo, Liverpool sign world class players <laugh>..whos that, Aspas? even if they get into the champions league they aren't signing world class players, they never have, even when they where champion league regulars.

Their best signings where players like Alonso, but before he was viewed as being world class, and where did he end up? Madrid and where did Mascherano end up? Barca.

Suarez will probaly stay but thats because clubs like Madrid won't be in the market for another world record striker, Barca have their issues and Bayern have purchased Lewandowski while Psg may be keen but the french league isn't appealing so yes Suarez may stay but thats only because Madrid etc aren't making bids.

Bale would have stayed if Madrid never bid, he wouldn't have just demanded to leave for anyone, thats why I don't see how we can blame Levy for not keeping him.

perhaps not. However, if this was a few years ago, I think Liverpool's transfer activity under Rogers this summer would be completely different, especially as they have new owners. But like Spurms mentioned, FFP will probably stop that now anyway.

Time for an urban myths article.

First one is how the Poool resist selling their "star players" .
40m + 1 quid by the Goons does not a "big club" offer make.

UEFA FFP is 45m Euros debt max over a 3 yr rolling window.
Given the Poool have made 90m odd loss over the past two seasons, that
    will be very interesting indeed.

Liverpool and Rodgers are benefiting from "good timing" as the year Suarez decided to try and leave, no big club needed him or wanted him (based on his previous behaviour).

I disagree. Like others have said, if they want someone they'll do all they can. I don't think that'll change this summer. They are having their best season in ages and Perez will look to do exactly what he did with Bale last summer, IMO. I just don't think they'll get any joy out of Liverpool.

On other matters, Everton appear to have blown a CL slot now.
I still think the Goons will have a usual springtime mare among their remaining
games, but the last 4 games for Everton is too nasty to overcome that.

Do not believe Perez will knee-jerk on a striker.
Madrid are still going great guns this season, and Bale was no doubt signed to
be the long-term replacement for CR7.
