In fact these matches would probably have helped. It remains to be seen if we miss out on Europe we would do better next season.

This is a common misconception. It's not about having the squad than can cope, City should have the squad to cope but fail each year, it's about the manager having only 1 or 2 days to train on specific games rather than a whole week.

Yeah, no travelling, no chance of extra injuries, less stamina used etc, its obviously a bonus for teams that are good enough to take advantage of it.
We got told it was the only reason we challenged for the title last season and finished 2nd, Utd though this season haven't been good enough to reach the top at any stage and don't look like finishing 2nd which is surprising given the perceived quality in their squad.

They're on target to be 10 points worse off than us last season (and in a less competitive league)

Man Utd won't be anywhere near challenging for the title next season unless they spent a lot of money fixing the fact that their midfield depends on someone who will be 34 next season and their defence depends on a keeper who will be gone next season

When Giggs takes over the season after next(LvG has already likened him to Mourinho)LvG will be on his Portuguese beach paradise drinking his fine wine and eating fantastic food with his family(as he's already said), but will Giggsy be good enough?

He appears very under the thumb in the United dugout and seems scared to say anything to LvG.

vG was slapping Giggs on the back in a congratulatory fashion and laughing about 15 minutes into the Chelsea game yesterday.
 
It's inconceivable for Pellegrini to not win this game.

I stake Tobes' reputation on it.

West Ham have been awful though, especially Song. Constantly giving the ball away. <doh>
