Balotelli was half the price of Sanchez and much less than Lukaku. Falcao's wages alone + loan fee is more than Balotelli's cost of ownership... and they have to pay £40+mill to keep him next year. Not really a fair comparison considering costs.

Cost is just a number that the player can do nothing about. Means ****all when it comes to success or failure

You've played Swansea, Sunderland, Burnley, QPR, Leicester, West Ham and Everton.

3 of which are promoted teams and only 1 finished in the top ten last year and 2 of which are currently in the bottom 3. I'd expect you to have been at least top4 after those fixtures.
Its down to your ****ty defence that you're 1pt and 1 goal into the 4th spot thus far.

Our ****ty defence has conceded as many league goals as your quality defence! Good result today, would have been gutted if we'd conceded a goal in the last minute!

Are Liverpool not paying Balotelli a wage? Is he being paid based on his performances?

What this season has shown and what last season showed was the season before means **** all.

On paper weve not had the toughest start but were still ahead of 4 of the sides who were ahead of us for almost all of last season. So its progress if nothing else.

Out of interest, if we did manage to beat chelsea in the gane a few weeks from now, what then? Big task obviously but not impossible.

Uir was so desperate to not admit his true lunacy but here it is.... Beat Chelsea and..... Well we all know what that is but I've news for you

Blind couldve been off today had it been away and rojo is utter muck when on the ball, bloody nervy lb/cb/expensive flop there

Uir will be back on no doubt claiming all sorts but there you go ok

Not getting #300k = 250k = whatever utd fans want to make fn up

So we paid 5million in loan fees and call it 250k a week for 36 weeks, that totals at 14million. Balotelli cost 16million and 100k a week would total at 19.6million.

You'll argue that Balotelli will have a residual value when you inevitably sell him next summer. Great. You'll get some money back for a **** player who has already been consigned to the bench.

You'd swap the Falcao loan deal for the Balotelli permanent deal in a heartbeat.

Coughs forgets to mention that falcao will cost another 40mil+ and no lfc fan gives a bollox about badontelly

Having seen falcao miss lots of chances you can keep the money grubbed he fits your style perfectly the only player people would want out of your lot is the Real Madrid reject

Stewart Downing, the best midfielder in England on current form? Big Sam thinks so anyway. But does he make Garth Crooks's team of the week? You'll have to find out later...

More from West Ham manager Sam Allardyce: "Since Stewart Downing has switched position he has been in top form and I thought he was the man of the match today. He was outstanding in possession and the way he passed the ball was fantastic.
"[On whether he could play for England] I think so but that is another choice for Roy Hodgson. I don't think there is anybody playing in midfield that is better than Stewart Downing."

Why? Weve got more points after the games played so far. Thats a fact. It wont change. Youre assuming you will get more points from games against teams weve played. You dont know, not the way youve been playing. You dont inow how we will do against the better sides. Then what?

Did I say it wasn't a fact <doh>
You said you'd rather be 1 ahead than 1 behind.
I said I'd rather be 1 behind having played harder fixtures given you'd then assume from the easier games you'd take more points. I'd hope against QPR, Leicester & Burnley we'd take 9 points which will be 5 more than you managed.

I think that is what he's assuming. Pretty sure I remember last season Rodgers talking about points on the board being more important <whistle>

After 7 games, I don't think it's that important. After 34 games, absolutely as the pressure is far more and having points on the board puts added pressure on those behind you.

United don't have to sign Falcao. If he proves he's worth the proposed transfer fee then great, if he doesn't he can go back to Monaco! He's gradually improved with each game, which you'd expect given that he's coming back from a long lay off. Good to see him add a goal to his assists.

Stewart downing was erratic with us. There were times he showed real quality. May be the system we played didn't suit him. He is playing well with west ham. Is it possible we sold him too early?

True, but expectations are higher for a £40mill signing than a £4mill signing though.

If you spend £4mill on a player who comes off the bench once a week to put in a decent performance that is money well spent. He's filling the role of the player you wanted. If your £40mill player is a benchwarmer he will be judged as a failiure.

Well it's been said that you have to buy him and a fee is agreed at the end of the season already etc so depends who you believe.

It's always important when you talk about the league. We've both got poor defences. I don't think either teams can take any game for granted. How would you fancy your chances away at Leicester? About the same as I would away against Villa. Like you said, it's only 7 games and there's a long way to go but it's a no brainier that I'd always rather be ahead of you's and top 4 than not, regardless.

Btw if it swings round and you go ahead I'll be annoyed at playing catch up. The one advantage of being ahead is you can look to pull away, rather than thinking about catching up first.

A fee and personal terms are agreed. We don't have to sign him though. Why a loan if a permanent transfer is already agreed?

The fact of the matter is you should of had a better point return with the fixtures you've had, surely you can't argue that? And yes, we should of too (all on paper). We've both however got a win so we'll have to see who kicks on from this, on paper we have 3 very winnable games coming up, and Sturridge should be returning. The table is so tight at the moment that a string of wins can see any team catapult in to a good position so I'm hoping we can pick up some momentum from here on in. Whereas yours can be halted by Chelsea, though nothing is concrete in football.

What's the point in bragging about being 1 point ahead of us though? You looked at your fixtures and expected a far better points return. The top half is now starting to take shape though, just a case of teams now having to get their act together. From a LFC perspective our last two performances have been encouraging.

No bragging. Just stating a fact. <ok>

Could be all change after the next round of games.
