Having said that, his shots are ferocious. And it doesn't even matter if the ball is bobbling all over the place. Almost always hits it clean. If he could do that regularly for us, he would turn into a top goalscoring midfielder.
Also Wilshere looked very good in that holding role. Would be worth seeing him there alongside Ramsey when they are both back. If they managed to communicate effectively and one went forwards whilst the other stayed back, they could be very effective in there.
I don't think they're ready to play together in midfield YET because at the moment they really play the same role just with different styles of play but in the future defo.
Amazing to think that at one stage half the England outfield players were from Arsenal! Who would have predicted that a few seasons back.
Wilshere isn't too small for that role. He's actually quite stocky and will get more so as he hits his late twenties. IMO he goes down easily under pressure mainly because he's worried about injury. Physically he's stronger than you think. Makalele Lassana Diarra Mascherano Matuidi Edgar Davids Didier Deschamps Are/were all about the same size as Wilshere. In fact Arteta is only slightly taller: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/08/09/article-2387680-1B33F01E000005DC-905_634x445.jpg In terms of weight I would say Wilshere and Flamini are about the same.
Agree with this. Wilshere is strong, but a bit nervous about getting injured. He also tends to push the ball just a bit further ahead of himself and he's not the quickest of players so that invites tackles. Like Bear I think he'll develop a bit more bulk when he's older and I see his long term position being in as central holding role with forays into the box.
Wilshere when he's playing well likes to dribble past players. You can't really do that when you're playing the deep role or you leave the team exposed if you lose it. Unless he can be developed into a no 10 then he will always be a CM, the same position Ramsey plays.
I wouldn't say Wilshere isn't the quickest, just that he's still not up to full fitness and hasn't got his acceleration back or his speed of turn/burst of pace, so he's always just a bit behind where he wants to be and thinks he'll be - leading to him inviting challenges rather than gliding past them. It's a shame as this is one of the reasons he's getting hit more, leading to him getting injured more, and meaning he's never fully recovered - and so the circle continues...
I kind of agree but with the system we play our furthest back midfielder is still allowed to get forward. His starting position is just deeper. If Wilshere can improve his ball winning then I think he ca do this well. Win the ball back then surge forward starting a attack. Much like Khedira at Real, Bender at Dortmund and even Matic at Chelsea. The traditional Makalele role isn't really being used any more. With a 4-2-3-1 for example - If Arteta/Wilshere gets forward Ramsey has to cover the space. When done correctly its' all about closing down the gaps.
