do i really need to post the list of losers he has ALSO bought .... what a pointless argument that would be D + must try harder .
1. Huh- Are you insane? We are now dropping back defensively into 2-banks-of-4 for the first time in years. RVP was the first time we played with a false 9 ever. Bringing Giroud back for Corners, because of our undersized midfield, is the first time we have ever brought our striker back defensively. Going back aways the invincibles played a 4-4-1-1, now we play a 4-2-3-1, with a very different approach to wingers. I think you are mistaking "Different" tactics for "Tactics I like". Even in the semi-final, he went to a 4-4-2 when we needed a goal. And in the West Ham game where we played TV at left back, there was a considerable difference to the way we attacked on the left, that worked perfectly, and 2 of our goals came from it. There is just no evidence to support this much bandied about claim. 2. Cazorla, Koscielney, Mertesacker, Ramsey, Sagna, Flamini, Arteta, just in recent memory.
They're not bargains. Cazorla came for good money from a cash strapped club. Koscielny was no one at the time so we got lucky like with Bale and Henry. Mertesacker came for good money. Ramsey was not a bargain... He got paid well for years and has only had one good season with us. Arteta cost good money for an average central midfielder. Sagna cost good money. We've paid for their worth. We've only struck gold with Koscielny really. The rest we paid the going rate for their worth at the time. The same could be said for spending £50-60m on Suarez. It would be the going rate at the time. Spending £10m on a £10m player is no more of a bargain than spending £60m on a £60m player.
So... In the last 10 years that's two players I count. And u don't Cazorla anyway... Hardly a 'bargain'. So that leaves Ade who was mediocre for more than half his time here. That list merely proves further that Arsene's eye for value isn't there anymore.
Francis Jeffers At the age of 20, Jeffers made a move from Everton to Arsenal for an amount which made him one of their most expensive signings at that point. £8 million. Now, at the age of 32 which is considered the prime of a footballers’ career, Francis is a fringe player for League 2 strugglers Accrington Stanley . Quality signing .
Um, you have a fundamental problem either with your understanding of economics or English, I'm not sure which. A buyer always pays what a player is worth at the time. The seller sets what the player is worth, based on the current demand, not the buyer. So by your definition, no bargain has ever existed in the history of football, because the buyer ALWAYS paid what the player was worth at the time. The definition of a bargain is how much value the player has given the club against how much the club paid for him. Here are 7 first teamers that all came at a price significantly less than you might expect to pay for a player at a top-4 club.
By your definition of a 'bargain' half the managers on the planet could argue they're good at signing 'bargains'. Wenger is no better at signing players than many others. Heck, Rodgers has signed players which have propelled them to league favourites in a year. Who has Wenger signed in the last 10 years that make you think, "no one else would have been able to get him for that price?" I'm not arguing that AW is poor signing players. He's not. He's signed gems and duds too. But to suggest he's some sort of expert at it is nonsense and disrespectful to hundreds of other managers who do it just as well as him.
I doubt anyone with intelligence classes 32 as "the prime of a footballers' career". & @ £8M he was nowhere near "one of their most expensive signings at that point" . You are and always remain an absolute cock.
What is it with these meaningless soundbites ? I want to hear the actual real substance and specifics about what exactly it is that this 'sign him up next week' new messiah would ACTUALLY do differently to improve Arsenal ? I'm sure that Poyet has a 'hunger to win' .....
Didn't Jeffers hold (maybe he still does) the record for highest number of goals scored for England U21's ?
such a pity we didnt sign the right one then . One got sh1t loads of goals and played for england loads of times , the other , Arsene signed him . credit where its due.
"Park Chu-Young made just one substitute appearance in the league and 3 Capital One Cup appearance in his first season at Arsenal, and was swiftly loaned out to Celta Vigo with a view to a permanent move. , After stealing the ex-Monaco striker from under Lille’s noses, fans thought he would provide adequate cover for the injury prone Robin van Persie. Park was given the number 9 shirt that has been held by the likes of Francis Jeffers and Julio Baptista, fellow flops. At the start of the last campaign, Park was switched to the number 30 shirt before being shipped out to Spain to play for La Liga strugglers Celta Vigo. " £40,000 a week bargain .
Richard Wright. "£6 million is a hefty amount for any goalkeeper, but let’s put this amount into context. Wright was just 23 when signing for Arsenal in 2001, and the amount paid for him was the second most paid for a goalkeeper in Premier League history. His lone season at the Gunners ended with just 12 appearances before Wright was shipped off to Everton. " bargain
Marouane Chamakh in his last season at Arsenal played just 11 times. One goal. £ 60 000 a week . Bargain
Owen signed his first schoolboy contract with Liverpool when he was twelve. Even then Arsenal were keen to sign him but Steve Heighway convinced him to sign for Liverpool. Read your facts before you post
