Papiss Cisse invites young Newcastle fans over for a barbeque http://metro.co.uk/2013/08/27/papiss-cisse-invites-young-newcastle-fans-over-for-a-barbeque-3939537/ Eight young Magpies and their parents were treated to a summer barbeque, games of pool, FIFA tournaments and a tour of Cisse’s luxurious home, with the 28-year-old keen to connect with his club’s supporters. ‘I wanted to spend more time with my fans. They are very important to me. I have missed them over the summer so I wanted to see them again at the start of the season. It is a gift for them at the start of the season,’ said Cisse, who also handed them signed merchandise – including replica Newcastle shirts he had originally refused to wear. ‘For me it is an obligation, a duty if you like. To me when I pull on the shirt it is for the fans. ‘When I first came here I didn’t realise so many kids and so many fans would feel the way they do about me. ‘Now my duty is to make them happy for as long as I can do it.’ Nice gesture from Cisse after the football shirt debacle. Also it's good to see players do something nice apart from granny venturing or misbehaving in car parking lots...
I'm very surprised by this comment. It's not hard to see that Soldado is better than Dempsey. I like Dembele's style, he holds on to the ball in tight situations like nobody else, but Capoue has already shown he is a beast at intercepting, and Paulinho is better at getting forwards. I'd say Dembele is a 7/10 wheras Capoue and Paulinho look like 8's atm. Dempsey probably a 6/10 and Soldado an 8 Obviously you are entitled to your opinion, and perhaps have not watched these players as much as I - but the guys we have brought in so far are a level above what we have had previously. Lloris Verts Kaboul Dembele (too an extent) Sandro Capoue Paulinho Soldado Imo could play in most of the top teams in the world.
Don't worry about TT, he's our resident optimist. I think most Arsenal fans would recognize that Spurs have improved their squad a lot more this season than in any previous seasons (in recent memory..). Losing Bale will hurt you though, so that could offset a lot of what you've done.
Haha fair enough. Yeh losing Bale will have an impact, though hopefully with a more complete team we will be more consistant, even if we lack that star quality every so often. If you look at the goals we scored loast year between Ade, Defoe and Bale I think we have replaced Bales goals with Soldado, and Ade's wont be hard to replace (provided we actually score from open play at some point!) So I think once we get Lamela (fingers and toes are crossed for this) we will have done all that is necesary to replace him on the field. There is no counting the loss of interest in the US and UK tv coverage though. Bale is everywhere atm.
In all honesty, every year we are told (by Spurs fans) through long factual posts why their squad is "Obviously" better than Arsenal. We are told this with absolute confidence and the emo section of our supporters agree with you. At the time you signed Dembele and Dempsey, I posted that they were hardly signings that would put you into the top 4 and posts like this one replied telling me I was wrong and they were top class. Just more of the same as far as I am concerned.
I'd be very surprised if any spurs fan ever thought Dempsey was "top class". He's never once shown himself to be. I think you may be thinking of Lloris and Verts - who were also bought last year, and who are class. and to be fair, we nearly did get 4th so it's not like they were too far wrong.
Supporters always over-rate their own players and Spurs fans are no different. Man-for-man the two clubs first X1s have been on a reasonable par for three or four years now. In my opinion the small difference in outcomes has been down to three main factors (1) Your manager and tactics have been better; (2) You've had a much deeper squad; (3) You've more experience of winning. I think we're closing the gap on all of these and I'd be really disappointed to finish below you this year.
I have witnessed some classic spud meltdowns over the years. HIAG's sandy crack tantrum before going into hiding for a month at the end of last season was a case in mind
I'm happy that the Spurs have strengthened, now NLDs will be well contested instead of being one sided!
Pretty sure our "emo" fans didn't think Dempsey was top class either. Most of us still think we'll finish above you, and nearly all of us thought we would last year. In terms of squad quality, you weren't really close until this summer. In other words, I have no idea what planet TT lives on. All I know is I don't want to live there.
Have you signed him ? I hope so, because that should mean the Bale transfer will get done now, leaving us to sign Benzema, Ozil or Di Maria
Roma have announced that he's left and joined Spurs and that they've signed his replacement, Adem Ljajic.
Hopefully this means movement on the Bale deal which will free up one or two of our 3 RM targets for a transfer.
Erik Lamela to sign for Spurs, say Roma http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23868923 Italian club Roma claim that Argentine forward Erik Lamela is to join Tottenham for about £25.7m (30m euros). The deal for the 21-year-old also includes up to £4.2m (5m euros) in bonus payments and takes Tottenham's spending to nearly £85m this summer. From BBC live reporting: Roma agree to sell 21-year-old Argentinia international forward Erik Lamela to Tottenham for 30 million euros, the Serie A club have confirmed. "AS Roma announce that they have signed a contract with Tottenham Hotspur for the definitive sale of Erik Lamela for 30 million euros," the Serie A club said in a statement to the Italian Stock Exchange.
