rememberleecolin - you can't use the injury excuse as Walcott ahsconstantly struggled with injuries that have held his careerback....

It's only in the last three seasons that he has been injury free and in those seasons he has got better and better.

That kind of comment makes us sound like Utd fans. Considering Tottenham now seem to be able to spend more on transfers than us, I don't share your optimism

We have 100% made an offer of over £40m - Spurs biggest signing is £20 something million for soldado - i think we CAN spend more than them if we choose to. Andconsidering the most recent Wenger comments and the players we are in for - i think we will spend some money.

Whether we do spend more or not though doesnt matter to me - its about who we bring into the squad.

Just because the Spuds paid over the odds for an aging Soldado, it doesn't mean that's something to be proud of. They have a long history of spunking cash up the wall and achieving very little.

  7. Haven't spurs just spent £49m...? Paulinho £17m, Nacer Chadli for £6m and Roberto Soldado £26m

Spurs have already spent more than half the 80 million they will get for bale, does no find it strange that they had no intention of meeting soldado release clause, then as soon as they knew bale was of they met it straight away. They won't spend any more than they receive for bale this summer. The money will be used to prop up the accounts, as they have been making small losses for the last few seasons. They need to have strong accounts to get investment for the stadium. Levy has been spending knowing he will be getting a big fee for bale either this year or next year.

@gerrez - whats your point? I was clearly showing the difference between what we are now willing to pay for a SINGLE player and what they are prepared to pay....

We've spent plenty more than 46m on players each transfer window lol, we just usually sell off players which pay for it! Now we don't have to.

  11. You comment above sounded like you was saying the £40m bid for Suarez was more than Spurs could spend. Fair enough if I took it the wrong way <ok>

You are making it sound as if being like Utd fans is a good thing.

I quite understand that you are not optimistic, but I just wonder what we would have to do to make you optimistic. I mean, how many years in a row have we beaten the spuds?

Not really sure that your logic holds up here. We have been doing one thing and beating them every year, but you are not optimistic. So you want us to do something different so that we have a better chance of beating them?

Isn't your pessimism the Einstein definition of insanity in a strange sort of negative way, in that we will be doing the same thing and you are expecting a different result? Just sayin'.

this , Bale looks better than he actually is because of the effect he has had on Spurs as a whole.

He had a blinder , they managed to avoid finishing mid table because of him.

This gives the impression that he is the answer to a teams problems .

    he aint ,

Yeah- I agree with you and Piskie here. Bale is not special when you compare him to players playing in a similar role.

against ANY decent defence he is powerless.

Phil Neville rendered him invisible for 90 minutes .

In the spanish league he should do well , there are what 4 good teams , the rest are average.

  17. A bit like with Michael Owen many moons ago, Bale's main asset is pace. What will he be like when he gets older and slows down?

Agree re walcotts injuries...the bale one had a very bad long term effect...like ramseys one did for him....its taken him a long time to get back on track too.

Not in the last 10 years we aint....apart from bentley who cost us 16m and we just released him for **** all we have a decent record.
We paid 16m for modric and sold him for between 30 and 33 million (depending on which paper you read); bent cost us 16m and we made that back; we spent 5m on defoe sold him for 10m and bought him back for 15m so he cost us a total of 10m...keane cost us 7m we sold him for 20m and bought him back for 13m and sold him for 5m making a total profit of 5m...berbatov 10m sold for 32m..carrick bought for 2.5m sold for 18m .... .crouch 9m sold for 10m, vdv cost 8m sold for 9m...palacious paid 13m sold for 9m (his career has nose dived since the death of his brother). We made profits on players like tanio, robinson, etc or brake even ...
We lose very little on our buys the only that spring to mind are bentley palacios and gomes.
