The Glazers aren't arsed about the football, never have been. Their strategy has been set since day 1.

They bought the club with debt, that the business has been paying back since. At the same time the asset value has increased dramatically. They'll continue to get the business to pay off the debt they used to buy it with until it reaches zero. At that point they might cash their chips in. In the meantime they'll continue to take over £20m p.a. in salaries - just to keep the wolf from the door........

i would say that it is one of ways

    1. gradual share issue diluting thier control thus harvesting cash.

    2. big sale as you say.

    3. milk the asset as the money flowing out of utd is great for them, they can pocket it after all.

its a great gig like you say so i assume its a business call what makes best return. item 3 seems to make most sense to me and then option 1 over time

From what I've read 3 of the children want to sell asap and the other 3 want to sell if the price is right - floating on the stock exchange was seen as a pre-cursor to a sale establishing what the valuation would be, which they estimate at around £2bn. Finding a new buyer will be difficult with a price tag like that so it's business as usual until then.

    I thought a 51% shareholding means ownership?

If the shares are fragmented and sold to different people/companies/groups the 2bn is also fragmented?

The Glazers own 90% split 6 ways - if 3 of them sell that leaves 45% in their possession which isn't then ownership - is that right?

    Money talk baffles me <laugh>

well the stock market is share is 10%? isn't it the case a guy would need 30% to initiate a take over there.

so i think the glaziers can sell a lot more off now before they dilute the ownership

none of us can know who actually owns the glazier empire as we speak can we? is it split even 6 ways or is the asset actually owned by a parent company that is split like this etc etc etc etc

You're right we don't ever know the real situation. It's reportedly 6 children own 90% split evenly and 3 of them want to sell quickly, I don't know how that leaves the rest of the share holders.

as its floated even with 10% owned outside family it must be subject to stock market rules?

i would wonder if there is some rule about them not being able to sell fora period. if each holds shares individually it makes no sense as them the guy would not have owned any so it must be owned by a company.
