  1. So making the CL once makes them better than us? Especially considering we've qualified three times in that time period and a much more recent one that offers incoming players the chance to participate to boot.

Liverpool gained CL twice in the last six seasons, 13/14 and 08/09. Spurs gained CL once 09/10 (and once in 11/12 but missed out with Chelsea winning the previous year) so top four is level. Not much difference there yet Spurs have finished higher in the league more often (4 of the last six) over that time.

  3. So they didn't then

For the record, I was obviously referring to the offer of CL football this coming season. I understood players going to Spurs when they looked more likely to get it than us or actually had it (once)

Context, context, context..... Spurs have only ever been in cl once whereas just prior to the time you focus on lfc win and reached another cl final.... Ergo it must be said that just as one year in 7th won't ruin utds draw (never had much due to buying and developing compared to a real) a clearly debarked bad period won't mean spurs are suddenly the best bet

Sorry but spurs have a smaller stadium, less reputation and appeal and only have London going for them.... If I was a mercenary type I'd rather wot cos they prob pay more

we all know how it works by now lol, 2 champions league FINALS in last 10 yrs compared to a team who have qualified for the tournament once in their history, or the other one cant score against a top half, top 6 top4 top2 team etc etc lol.

my favourite one is we go on about history blah blah but then what do they use when trying to make our stats look bad? oh that's right history lol.

anyone reckon pochetino (?) will go to spurs? and if he doesn't who is their backup options.

being a foreign manager, maybe the bright lights of london will be attractive, like to see saints build on what they done last season, but how many of that team will be off.

I think the deal is done myself.

My conspiracy theory is to believe the press talk about anchelotti being no 1 choice and Pochettino is actually already plan b.... thus doomed before he starts.

anyway that aside i do think it will be done and the press are lining up an absolute feeding frenzy to rip southampton to shreds.

Form the saints perspective this would have been much much better coming out in about 2 weeks time as the press would be world cup mad. right now there is a calm before the storm and ripping southampton to shreds and selling their entire squad will fill the back pages easy.

I think they were looking at Van Gaal and de Boer. Whoever gets it will be Levy's 10th manager!!

It's all going to end badly for Spurs and Southampton, S'hampton don't want him to leave, Spurs fans don't want him. Pochettino should stay where he is, build on it and then watch the big job offers come in. Why he wants to be number 10 goodness knows, fail at Spurs then where does he go?

I don't think he did. He said he had informal talks with them but heard no more I think he would be a good shout.

I don't know. there were stories tottenham approached ajax and then de boer himself said they didn't. the stories about de boer surfaced when sherwood was still in the role (cant say he was ever in charge) but it seems nothing occured.

It could be they never followed up the equiry or it was all rubbish. I don't know but it does indicate a few options were looked at.

Could be another Martinez to Liverpool case, he was never offered the job [ayre] yet claims he was - we'll never know.

yes i just like the idea that spurs have gone round the houses and picked the guy who is more to their standing (ie smaller but maybe up and coming) as the others knocked them back or were never available (anchelotti was so far out of their league!!)

Levy used to look savvy but i think it was only happy harry stability perhaps. that and selling for big fees but he seems to have lost the run of himself picking who plays (adebayor) and who they buy as well.

anyone tell me what Alonso celebration was at full time?

missed it (well missed most of the game to be honest), but apparently he has been charged by Uefa.

i heard about the Simone incident and he has been charged, just surprised Xabi has.

Pitch encroachment. Alonso went pitch side on the final whistle.
