Based on 10 pl games unbeaten.

Based on being top scorers this calendar year.

Our form from the end of last season to now deffo puts us in the mix.

  3. I don't go along with this. We have bought eight players in and lost nine, we do not have the same squad in the latter three games as the former seven. Same can be said for most of the rivals, there are only a couple that have not bought and sold a lot but they have new managers. Basically, the seven games were last season and that's gone.

No wonder you have this reputation of being delu....err overly optimistic.. :)

Come on. You have had three games. Apart from United (at home!) who played the worst game I have seen for some time, you havent had top opposition. So quite early to draw any great definite conclusion like:
Everton is a nothing team because they have lost their manager and have overachieved.
    Chelsea are your rivals
Liverpool will be contenders for the title...

Maybe in ten matches time after playing some top class opposition away?

We also need to wait to see if we've learned lessons from last season.

We had 3 good results on the bounce then lose with a poor performance e.g. West Brom 2-0 home & Southampton 3-1 away

We had 2 decent draws at the Emirates & Etihad on paper, though we should've won 1 of them if not 2 in hindsight plus a 5-0 win against Norwich City home then we went and lost 2-0 at home to West Brom. 5-0 win against Swansea, 4-0 away win against Wigan & 3-2 home win against Spurs followed by a 3-1 loss away to Southampton.

Just a complacency and lack of desire creeping in if we get a couple of good results on the spin. Not the end of the world if we lose against Swansea by any means, but we need to at least put a decent shift in and not be steamrollered. The result doesn't overly concern me, as long as we don't get outplayed and outfought for 90 mins.

    This

I am still astonished at the capacity of some Liverpool fans to look at any situation with red-tinted spectacles. Most fans would look equally at the positives and the negatives: e.g the strengths of the top teams or the opposition so far not being that strong etc. But some has the ability ( good fortune?) to shut out anything that does not agree with their wishes and only find the facts supporting their projections.

We do see it every August September and October since the beginning of the premiership. The degree of unrealistic optimism never ceases to amaze me <ok>

I remember we struggled to get 2 wins on the bounce before last season. It was good to finally get 3. Now it will be a test to see if we can get 4/5 this season.

How are we be optimistic about our team. Let's hope we can scrap 40 points together this season and anything above that would be a bonus <ok>
9 down, 31 more to go!

Why can't Liverpool fans be optimistic? The standard of the Premier League is piss poor nowadays.

Thats the speciality of obsessed Mancs (and Spurs fans) I think you'll find.

You are a hypocrite as you see EVERYTHING through Manc-tinted spectacles were everything Utd is boss and everything LFC is awful.

If you are given the privilege of being able to post on our board make your WUM attempts at least non hypocritical.

  14. RvP = miss of the season!

Tap in from two yards out, no keeper and near far post, he put it wide of near post <laugh>

Hyypia needs to sort of his teams defence. Reckon he could have played better than them tonight.

Rooney got lucky, should have rolled it to RVP when it was 1-0 to tap in before going round the keeper, and then after just put it to him easily instead of shooting, and nearly paid for it when they made it 1-1.

How the first goal wasn't offside is beyond me. How much more interfering with play without actually touching the ball can you get when you're holding onto the keeper on the line as he's trying to make a save!

    Saw it!

Their fans really are the quietest in the league. They shout "united, united" every 10 mins and absolutely nothing else until they score.

    Chelsea 1-0.

An Arsenal fan on bbc live text - Charlie in Leamington via 81111: Am I the only one who honestly thinks this is Arsenal's best chance of winning the Champions League in years? Flamini and Ozil added to a fit Wilshere and in-form Cazorla, Giroud and Walcott has got me purring.

<doh> And they say we're deluded!!! I'm sure Barca, Munich, Madrid will be quaking in their boots! Flamini & Wilshire will no doubt be injured in a few weeks anyway.

I thought Mertesacker's attempted clearance was bad when he sliced it over his own keepers head and Gibbs had to head off the line but the Marseille defender has gone one better, stooping down under no pressure to head the ball right up in the air, straight to Walcott to volley home <laugh>
