It's by no means a certainty he wouldn't get sacked though.

Many fans would deem finishing below moyes as a failure so perhaps the board agrees.

Surely he would. He'd have finished below below average Moyes. He was sacked for finishing below above average Fergie. Mourinho is under immense pressure this season not to be below below average.

with all the 3 top clubs having new mangers, he has no excuse to not win it tbh
if he can do it this season, he will never be able to do it, so why Abra will keep him .. he already starting with an advantage, being a manager of Cheslea before, and a manager of a top club in PL

I wouldn't go that far, those Arsenal and Chelsea sides were incredible teams and just a step above the rest. Last season, there were a number of under performing teams for different reasons, but the table doesn't lie, you ran out clear winners.

Moyes is a good defensive coach and I expect he'll improve your home record against the better teams, which was pretty poor last season tbh.

It's not just going to be tough for United though, it'll be tough for everyone. Most football fans only think of August and May when the fixtures are released, many lack the foresight to envisage what will happen between, when the competitions and fixtures come thick and fast.

The one advantage United may have is that with Moyes, nobody will expect them to deliver in the Champions League, whereas City and Chelsea are under pressure to do so.

Oh Arsenal in 04 and Chelsea in 05 were great teams, but they hardly faced the same level of competition as Utd did last season, and will likely face this season. Ranieri's Chelsea were very much a work in progress, Arsenal in 05 were in a sharp decline, Utd were very poor around that time in general, and there were no other teams around at the time which could really challenge those three, even in individual games. They were great teams but no one really challenged them for their titles.

Like you say, Utd's dominance last season was more down to the teams around them underperforming, rather than simply not being very good. Which is why Utd will have a much tougher time retaining our title than Chelsea did in 2006.

Some guy named Spurm thinks we are Liverpool. I think he actually means that because Liverpool eventually went to the ****ter then we will. Something about changing managers having an effect. Probably best I don't point out that the effect is more often than not positive.

Its interesting that fans of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are laughing though. Moyes made Everton a side equal to those 3 sides on about 2% of the budget.

It took City over £1billion to secure a place above David Moyes Everton.

Moyes has spent £65million in the last 5 years, less than half that of Arsenal, 1/4 of Tottenham, 1/5 Liverpool and little more than 10% of City and Chelsea.

The fear is there for all to see. He was equal to them at Everton and now hes got a much better team. I'd be worried too.

Every team in the top 6/7 is going to be written off by somebody. Lets just wait till August, pointless getting stressed over it now. We won't know much until October really.

    Agree with DL.
There is the possibility that any of the top 6 could flop to fu*kery and fail to meet expectations.
Chelsea: Jose could either replicate the magic of his first reign and lead Chelsea to the title, or could have a few bad results, argue with Roman and be sacked by Christmas.

Man Utd: Could continue their great League record and claim a 21st title or the pressure of expectation could get to him after a bad few results and your season could go down the sh*tter.

Man City: New manager, unproven in the Premier League, so was Mourinho in 2004, and look what he achieved, but so was Scolari in 2008 and look what he achieved :)

Arsenal: Will they spend, has Wenger forgotten how to win trophies? Can they compete with the three financial power houses above them and put themselves amongst the title chasers again, or will it be another season of battling it out with Spurs and scraping 4th, 20 points behind the Champions?

Tottenham: Will they get the Striker they desperately need? Can AVB take them to the next level and make them CL regulars? They have strenghtened, but so has everyone else.

Everton: New manager with a completely different philosophy to Moyes, can he adapt the Everton squad to suit his play style?

Either of these could go either way, thats why this will be the most exciting Premier League season for me since 03/04

They're certainly very keen to let everyone know, on a daily basis, how certain they are that Moyes is going to be a flop. They're trying to convince themselves that finally money will overcome all else. If Moyes is so little of a threat why is he the main topic of conversation on the Chelsea board? Most United fans are taking a let's see what happens attitude.

For my money it's city who are at risk. They get away with it on here as there's very little point in discussing them.

I can see city dropping out of the top 4. They have the weakest manager of the top 4 or 5 teams and imo have reduced the quality of their attack. I will concede they have probably increased moral but let's see how.much effect that has.

To be fair, its mainly cpofl and maybe 1 or 2 others taking that stance.
I really think it can go either way.
He is unproven at the top level and in the CL. He is used to working with grafters and not winners so whether he can make that step up? Who knows?
We will see. He seems to me a pretty competent manager, and despite what some people say, I still say to keep Everton where he did (in the top 10 and even sometimes challenging for top 4) on a shoe string budget deserves some plaudits.
But United is a whole new kettle of fish, he will face more media scrutiny and expectation than he has ever known.
It would probably be a lot worse if Mourinho hadnt come back too, as he seems to have taken some of the limelight off Moyes.
