England need 268 to win, great chance although it'll be a record chase.

odi: zimbabwe 408/6 off 50 overs beat usa 104 all out 25.1 overs by 304 runs.

that's the second highest margin of victory in odis, second only to india's 317 run win against sri lanka in january (390/5 and 73 all out).

zimbabwe's biggest margin since march of 1999 when they beat kenya by 202.

zimbabwe captain sean williams scored 174 off 101 and was last out with 8 deliveries left. zimbabwe added 21 off those last 8 deliveries. it was his highest odi score and the third highest by a zimbabwe player. it looks likely that williams has scored more odi runs for zimbabwe than any other player (4776 in 153 games. no zimbabwe player has yet reached 5000, but i can't be sure that none have scored between 4776 and 5000)..

the 408 was zimbabwe's highest odi score.

unusual happenings in the icc world cup qualifier group a game between netherlands and the west indies.

the windies batted first and racked up 374/6 off their 50 overs. nicholas pooran scored 104no off 65 with nine fours and six sixes making 72 in boundaries.

netherlands replied, mostly keeping up with the required rate. teja nidamanuru scored 111 off 65 before failling off the last ball in the 46th over with 48 more needed and only 3 wickets left.

the next three overs brought 6, 12 and 21 runs, leaving 9 to win.

the final over brought a wicket off the 3rd, but runs either side, leaving one delivery to come and the scores level.

the batsman threw everything at it, but mishit it and was caught.

    tie.

the highest scoring tie in odis.

    so it's golden over time.

    netherlands batted first .

van beek, who had scored 28 off 14 faced first. a nervous time for the bowler..

    4
    6
    4
    6
    6
    4

    THIRTY TO BEAT.

    windies over

    6
got to keep them like that
    1 so 24 off 4
    1 not good enough 23 off 3
    wicket
    wicket

    6th ball didn't happen.

for the qualifers, there are two groups of 5 and the top three from each group play another group of 6 to decide which qualify for the finals. the results from the groups of five carry into the group of 6, this means west indies (3rd of 5 in group a) have two defeats and will have a real job to qualify. sri lanka and zimbabwe carried over 2 wins, scotland and netherlands one each, and windies and oman none.

don't know how many of the six qualify.

late edit: the netherlands batsman, logan van beek, who scored 30 in the golden over also bowled the over* at the west indies.

    * five sixths of an over.

    Second test starts today.

    **** or bust, I'd say.

    Unless it's a draw.

    Or a tie.

Big risk going in without a spinner. Asking an awful lot of Joe Root.

Grey and overcast in London. Green tinged pitch.

    Win the toss and bowl.

Ball’s doing a bit already which is encouraging seeing as though this Duke ball doesn’t usually start swinging until the 8th over.

    Allegedly.
