    I think Aussies will declare now with 7 6 5 needed. <ok>

That 1st innings declaration is looking a really poor decision at the moment.

Highly likely that it cost us the game.

    Reckless and stupid.

Was Anderson injured. When Broad and Robinson were getting no joy at the end, it had to be changed. No?

Nonsense, that game was full of match-changing incidents, early declaration was one of many.

Anderson got little joy all the game, Broad and Robinson were taking wickets. I don't think the pitch/conditions were favourable to Anderson.

We'll never know. Great game, shame we lost but there's 4 more to go and I'm sure we've learnt something. We move on!

We shouldn't have declared in the first innings and we shouldn't have gone so hard in the second innings?

In which case the game would have been a draw.

And we'd be better off than we are now.

However we did declare and push on but that's not why we lost. The reason we lost was because Cummings and Lyons played the partnership of their lives.

    Well done to them.

If there was a turning point which could have been avoided it was probably bowling Root one over too many but he'd just taken a worldy caught and bowled so why wouldn't you? That's how narrow the margins were.

Loads of test matches are full of match changing decisions, that’s obvious. Unforced errors such as dropped catches or missed run outs. It’s all part of the game.

To declare in your first innings when you’re best batsman is seeing it like a football and he’s scoring for fun WHILST your innings total is still under par is a forced, reckless and stupid mistake that probably cost us the match.

Only the 4th time in test history a team has lost after declaring in the first innings.

    Do the math.

Disappointing to lose that but a long way to go yet. My concern is Australia were nowhere near their best, especially Smith and Labawhatsit. They won't be as poor again you wouldn't think

Their record at Lords isn’t too shabby either.

What if we'd picked up a wicket or two after that declaration, we'll never know will we. Also it's nowt to do with math, it's stats.

    We didn’t though did we?

That’s because batting conditions were as good as you could get.

    Stupid decision.

Questionable decision yes, but it was made at the end of the first day, there were plenty of match-changing moments in the next 4 to influence the result. Maybe Aus were just a bit better than us? That's a bigger issue for me than a bit of unusual decision making
