Hearing the sad passing of Franny Lee reminds me of this iconic moment of commentary.

Steve Harley, the frontman of British rock band Cockney Rebel, has died at the age of 73. <rose>
Make Me Smile was the second single I bought with my own pocket money. A proper, banging, pop-rock choon, sensational. Didn't care for the B side much, so I didn't get any further than that.

The first was Seven Seas of Rhye by Queen, if anyone is remotely interested. The B side, See What A Fool I've Been, was played til the grooves wore out... a slow driving blues rocker with Freddie as camp as could be!

RIP Dickie Betts. One of the greatest guitarists of his era and a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, one of the defining bands of my youth (and elder years), leaving only Jaimoe Johanson left of the original 1969 starting line up. He died yesterday following a long battle with cancer. Originally forming with Duane Allman one of the best guitar duos of all time, and later with Warren Haynes. Another part of my youth slips away - cheers Dickie and rest in peace at the great gig in the sky <rose><rose><rose>

A Welsh international with 54 caps for his country. More than 600 football league appearances. And then a lollipop man at Penyrheol Primary School in Swansea, until he suffered a stroke in 2014. Leighton James was one of the best of his time, and it is sad to see him die at the early age of 71. <rose>

Sad to read that Richard Tandy has died today. He was with the Move for a short period, but for forty years has been the keyboard player with ELO. A remarkable multi-instrument musician, his importance to developing the fusion of orchestra and rock with ELO has to be a huge achievement, yet I doubt that many would know who he was. RIP <rose>
