Dave Prowse, the Bristolian former bodybuilder best known for playing Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, has died aged 85.
Prowse was cast as Vader for his imposing physique, even though the role was voiced by James Earl Jones.
But the weightlifter-turned-actor was most proud of playing the Green Cross Code Man. The role, promoting road safety in the UK, earned him an MBE.

Peter Alliss, the legendary BBC golf commentator, has died at the age of 89.
Alliss, known as 'the voice of golf' to fans around the world, has been synonymous with the BBC's golf coverage for more than half a century.
Having first appeared on the BBC in 1961, he was made lead golf commentator in 1978 after retiring as a player.
"It is with great sadness we announce the passing of golfing and broadcast legend Peter Alliss," said Alliss' family.
In a statement, they described his death as "unexpected but peaceful".

Actress Dame Barbara Windsor, best known for her roles in EastEnders and the Carry On films, has died aged 83.
Her husband Scott Mitchell said she had died peacefully from Alzheimer's at a London care home on Thursday evening.
He said she would be remembered for the "love, fun, friendship and brightness she brought to all our lives".

Charley Pride, the first African-American to enter the Country Music Hall of Fame, has died aged 86, his website has announced.
Pride, who rose to fame in the 1960s, passed away on Saturday from complications of Covid-19.
While Pride was not the first black singer in country music, he became one of its biggest stars during a period of division in the US.

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has died at the age of 73.
The Frenchman managed the Reds from 1998-2004 and led them to five major trophies, including the FA Cup, League Cup and Uefa Cup treble in 2000-01.
Prior to Liverpool, Houllier managed Lens, Paris St-Germain and the French national team, and after leaving the Reds won two Ligue 1 titles at Lyon.
His last managerial job was at Aston Villa, but he left in 2011 after nine months, following heart problems.

As a player, Glasgow-born Docherty made more than 300 appearances for Preston and won 25 caps for Scotland.
He went on to manage 12 clubs, leading Chelsea to League Cup success in 1965 and United to a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the 1977 FA Cup final.
