Don't think a 'RIP' thread is the place for a slanging match personally, grow up.

Before my time so don't really know a great deal about him.

Sad news nonetheless.

R.I.P. He seemed like a decent bloke and his club management record was excellent. Yes, he failed miserably as England manager, but no one deserved the personal abuse he got from our tabloid press.

He was not a miserable failure though RAW as he had massive injury and retirement issues and he was rebuilding.

I can't believe some of the negative posts on here regarding Graham Taylor. To take a team like Watford through the divisions in 5 seasons and Villa to runners up never mind good old Lincoln City is as good as it gets.I get he was poor with England (not many have been good) but overall he's been a very good manager. You have only got to look at the tributes paid to him,the words like good honest genuine keep cropping up ,not words you can attribute to most of the managers nowadays

With respect, mate. You have already created a thread about him, there's also another thread started by somebody else about him.

Surely you could have just put this on one of them threads?

Understand what you mean and can sympathise, but the solution could be for the Turnip Head thread thread be renamed out of respect.

After all. it was the Sun that came up with that cruel line.

To take a team up from the 4th tier to the top and finish runners up was a remarkable achievement. To finish runners up again with Villa showed he wasn't a one trick pony.

It's a shame he'll always be remembered by most is for his failure with England and that awful headline.

Which ever way you look at it, to not qualify for a world cup tournament with the players and resources we have has to be classed as failure. His club record was excellent though..
No argument there, but failing to qualify for a world cup places him alongside Sir Alf Ramsey in 74, and Don Revie/Ron Greenwood in 78, all by a whisker but nonetheless failures in your terms.

The reasons behind the three failures were for different reasons and out of the three Taylor got the rawest deal in player availability terms.

Done from memory of course, but the info is out there.
