He was an old schoolmate of Andy Dalton's, he's full of praise.

10 years ago today my Dad was killed at work.

He never saw us in the top flight, and he never will.

A wonderful man, remembered fondly by all those who met him.

Anyone who saw me planting daffodils on his grave today may be concerned that I was fighting off his reanimated corpse with a wooden stake. That is why I was there. Just in case.

Miss you Dad. Turns out that I'm only half the man I thought I was when you were alive.

Former Barnsley/Grimsby defender Paul Futcher has died after a battle with cancer aged 60.

It would have been my father's 100th birthday this week if he was still with us. He passed when he was 58, so a long time ago, the only positive thing is you remember them as they were when they died relatively young.

Just seen this - was quite shocked.

Didn't he have a blonde haired twin (or brother) called Ron who played too? Or am I getting confused with the two who played for Man C?

    RIP Paul Futcher

I'm pretty sure that he did have a twin who also played - possibly at Luton when they were a top flight team.

Aye, whole family of footballers - Futcher's twin brother Ron played in the Football League (Luton, Oldham, Burnley and Bradford) as well as being a top scorer in the North American Soccer League (Minnesota Kicks); and their older brother Graham also played professionally (Chester City). Paul's son Ben has extensive Football League experience (Lincoln and Bury) and he is the uncle of Danny Murphy.

Didn't they both play for Man City then in the early 80s?

Or am I confusing them for another pair of blonde brothers?

It was the late 1970s when they played for a season together at Man City.

Paul Futcher was at one time the most expensive defender.

The bonds will always be there between you & your dad Des, despite the misunderstandings/differences of opinion that may occasionally occur between father and son. I remember calling home from London Heathrow as I was emigrating over 40 years ago. My father couldn't bring himself round to get on the phone. That's when I realized the real importance of a father/son relationship and the genuine thoughtfulness of his sound advice. Miss him still.

At his wake, 19 years ago now, one of his mates insisted on playing the following piece. Brings tears to my eyes.

During my working career I moved up the food chain and reached a role where I would have to regularly deliver team/safety briefings to the guys on my shift. I always ended them with ''when your wife/gf/mum/kids waved you off to work it never entered their heads that you wouldn't be coming home - be ****ing careful'' A truly terrible thing to happen to you and your family.
