I haven't a practical bone in my body. This is exacerbated by the fact that I can never be bothered to get the right tool for the job. I may know that I have a toolbox in the shed but will still attempt to do any job with an old spoon or a kitchen knife.
Used to be like that myself, Fran. I wouldn't get the right tool because 1] I didn't believe I had a hope in hell of doing the job right, and 2] I didn't have the patience to do a job badly.
But really, getting the right tool means you're halfway there already. When you get that kind of a leg-up it gives you the confidence to try harder and perhaps be a little more patient with yourself.
Nowadays I can use the wrong tool, knowing full well how wrong a tool I can use and get away with it. Using a spoon I reserve for measuring out the coffee though. And that's important too, of course.
